1. Kemar Roach

Kemar Roach stands as one of the finest fast bowlers ever seen representing West Indies, having amassed 291 wickets across 86 Test matches while also excelling as an efficient lower-order batsman – notching up over 1,500 runs during his time as an international Test player and becoming an invaluable member of their side.

This 37-year-old was an integral member of the West Indies team which won both the 2022 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy. Known for his ferocious pace and late swing, he exudes pride and is not shy to voice his opinions when needed.

His career has also shown incredible resilience after experiencing multiple injuries setbacks. Once known for fast bowling speeds in excess of 90 mph, but then changed his style due to serious injuries; through hard work he eventually was able to reclaim his form.

Roach was reinstated into the West Indies squad following the injury woes of Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph, adding depth to a West Indies attack led by 29-year-old Ojay Shields.

Making his Test debut for an injury-riddled West Indies side against Bangladesh in 2009, he quickly rose through the ranks at that tournament as its leading wicket-taker and was also the first Windies bowler ever to claim a hat-trick during World Cup matches.

Since then he has featured regularly for both Deccan Chargers, Worcestershire County Cricket Club as well as Caribbean Premier League (CPL) clubs like Antigua Hawksbills, St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs.

2. Alick Athanaze

Alick Athanaze is an exciting young Caribbean batsman who exemplifies the next generation of dynamic Caribbean players. He has earned praise from some of the region’s iconic legends and stands as a source of national pride for Dominica.

Athanaze leads on and off the field as captain for Windward Volcanoes competitions; his success serves as a reminder of investing in homegrown talent as he serves as an example to young Dominicans who hope to follow in his footsteps.

Michael first showed promise as a youth cricketer before making his List A debut with West Indies Under-19s at Regional Super50 tournament in January 2017. He went on to score 418 runs across six innings and two centuries in that competition, becoming its leading run-scorer.

Subsequently he excelled in 2022-23 West Indies Championship four day tournament, which earned him his maiden Test call-up in February 2023 and Windwards appearance during an ODI series against UAE midyear, scoring the fastest fifty ever by an ODI debutant player!

In the following ODI series against England, Athanaze scored an unbeaten 92 to help his side salvage a draw and show great maturity when under pressure. His innings was crucial to their team’s survival and Athanaze’s performance was key in keeping their position alive.

Athanaze’s impressive form continued in August 2024 against South Africa when he scored an unbeaten 92 to help West Indies come back and save the match. His efforts were pivotal to their survival and showed his potential as an essential mid order batsman for West Indies – something he plans on capitalising on when facing New Zealand next.

3. Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips has quickly emerged as one of New Zealand cricket’s most exciting young batsmen, particularly right-handed wicketkeeper batsmen, thanks to his uncanny ability to hit hard shots off both bat and ball.

Fans love watching him strike balls hard for long hits at bat, making him even more beloved among cricket lovers. Additionally, this 25-year-old Auckland batsman has proven adept in field positions such as gully or backward point when deployed as fielder.

Southpaw made his List A debut in 2015 but caught the attention of national selectors during a stellar 2016 Super Smash season for Auckland. He finished as the tournament’s top run scorer with 369 runs before earning selection to represent England U-19 in the World Cup later that year.

Phillips has made an impressionful contribution for New Zealand in all areas of cricket; from aggressive hitting in Test matches to all ODI matches at the 2023 ICC World Cup where his side reached the semi-final and were eventually defeated by India.

Phillips shone for New Zealand A at the 2022 T20 World Cup, striking an unbeaten 64-ball 104 against Sri Lanka at the SCG to show his prowess and skill. Phillips is also an IPL regular, having spent time with Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad over his career.

At a recent Super Smash game, Otago batsman Sam Phillips stunned the crowd with an amazing shot. In a viral video of this stunning strike by Central Districts spinner Jayden Lennox against Otago batsman Philips, Phillips hit over extra cover for six. Fans across the world applauded this achievement and the incredible strike underscores why Phillips is such an esteemed player.

4. Michael Bracewell

Michael Bracewell made his Test debut for New Zealand against the Netherlands in 2022, quickly becoming an integral member of their BLACKCAPS side. Between 2019-2021 he led them to back-to-back Plunket Shield titles and Dream11 Super Smash crowns while captaining them during that period.

A son of Otago first-class cricketer Mark and cousin of Brendon McCullum (ODI and T20 captain of New Zealand), Bracewell became part of an outstanding third generation to play Test cricket for New Zealand ODI and Twenty20 captain.

Justin Greaves’ career-best 202 not out rescued West Indies from near certain collapse, recording their second highest fourth innings total and drawing with New Zealand in Christchurch’s inaugural Test match.

Dubbed by captain Roston Chase a “modern-day legend”, the all-rounder combined for an astounding 180 run seventh wicket stand with Shai Hope before retiring after 34 overs per side due to rain had been completed in this Test match.

Bracewell, who models his game after Adam Gilchrist, excels both batting and bowling leg-spin and off-spin bowling. A key figure in one of Wellington’s recent successful sides – winning two Ford Trophy titles and leading them to consecutive Dream11 Super Smash wins – Bracewell was recently presented with a central contract offer for 2024/25 season and is set to become an even greater integral component of their squad.

5. Ajaz Patel

New Zealand had several stand-out players during the early 1980s. Bert Sutcliffe and Glenn Turner were two outstanding batsmen while John F Reid provided all-round coverage. Richard Hadlee, Martin Crowe, Bruce Edgar, Geoff Howarth, Jeremy Coney Lance Cairns John Wright and Ewen Chatfield provided bowlers for New Zealand that regularly contributed match-winning performances and contributed significantly to its total.

One-day cricket provided New Zealand with the chance to compete more frequently against international teams than Test cricket did, providing opportunities for victory through partial batting contributions, economic bowling and effective fielding from its players – something New Zealand players did exceedingly well and earned them a competitive record in this format.

Colin Munro became the first New Zealand player ever to score three Twenty20 International hundreds, recording the fastest fifty off 14 balls against Sri Lanka at Wellington on 10 January 2016 (his third ODI century and eighth highest overall run scorer overall for New Zealand).

Ajaz Patel has quickly made the leap from Tests to One Day Internationals (ODIs), becoming an invaluable member of the New Zealand team over recent years in the New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard.

He has seen marked improvements to both his bowling performance and ability to adapt to surfaces on the subcontinent by altering his bowling stride and load-up, helping him vary delivery speeds while increasing run-up length for greater control over pace control.

All these adjustments have helped Patel advance his bowling performance in ODIs while showing signs he will make significant contributions towards New Zealand’s success over coming years in the New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
