Drake Maye began the game shakily, but on the Bengals’ subsequent drive he launched an underthrown pass toward no-man’s land up the seam and Geno Stone made an extraordinary play to come down with it for his first pick-six of his career.

New England would then execute nine plays from inside of Cincinnati’s one-yard line before opting for a field goal attempt, a key moment in the New England Patriots Vs Bengals Match Player Stats that highlighted the Patriots’ red-zone struggles.

Stefon Diggs

Drake Maye and the Patriots trailed 10-0 after one quarter but made a comeback in the second, scoring on Hunter Henry and getting picked off by Marcus Jones to gain momentum and take control.

They ran nine plays inside Bengals five-yard line before settling for two field goals to take an unwavering lead which they never relinquished, even after injuries surfaced late in the game.

Kyle Williams would make an incredible play on the kickoff to swing field position in New England’s favor and give them possession on Cincinnati’s 40-yard line. Maye found Diggs open and set up third down – again, Diggs would come through, making a key catch that kept their drive alive.

The Patriots would settle for a field goal on their third drive and a short possession on their fourth, but their defense managed to squash any chances for an unlikely rally by sacking Flacco on fourth-and-1 from one yard line, forcing a turnover on downs, and giving the Patriots an insurmountable 20-13 lead.

As their injury count climbed higher for the Patriots, Jared Wilson and Morgan Moses both left with injuries. Vederian Lowe and Ben Brown filled in for their starters as they attempted to find ways to win without their stars.

New England would run seven plays on their final drive of the game, beginning from their own 27-yard line and progressing past Chase Brown’s running plays (21 yards run and 16 yard catch) all the way to Bengals 35 yard line before being stopped on an attempt by Henry to throw shovel pass to him; therefore requiring them to settle for another field goal from New England.

In the final minutes, the Bengals attempted a comeback as they advanced across midfield. Rhamondre Stevenson made a great play that brought them all the way back up to New England’s 46-yard line, but after another fumble they lost possession and the Patriots got it back with under one minute remaining.

Treyvon Henderson

Henderson has been an integral component of New England’s run game this season. A 2025 second-round pick, Henderson has led his team in rushing yards each time he has been played and contributed significantly to their top-ranked short yardage defense. Facing off against Cincinnati’s subpar run defense may prove beneficial to Henderson’s cause; perhaps another big day awaits.

As the game continued, the Patriots defense continued its impressive play. Third-down stops by Carlton Davis and Geno Stone kept Cincinnati out of the end zone on two key drives; an unexpected holding penalty negated a 67-yard return that would’ve put them within field goal range; following Chase Brown’s 21-yard run and Tee Higgins’ 16-yard catch, their defense kept them out again.

After an underwhelming first half, the Patriots offense finally found its stride on their opening drive of the second half. Maye connected with Hunter Henry for a 28-yard touchdown pass, followed by an additional field goal from Maye.

Unfortunately for Maye and company, however, their next drive saw Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco attempt to hit rookie running back Tahj Brooks near right sideline flat but Marcus Jones made sure of it by intercepting and returning it 33 yards for an unexpected pick-six pick off!

New England was not impressive on offense, but were still able to hold off a late Bengals rally and win their ninth consecutive game, ceding first place in AFC East with three games left to go.

With Jared Wilson and Morgan Moses exiting due to injuries, the Patriots were left with little choice but to turn to backup players on their final drive.

Although struggling against one of the worst run defenses in the league, they eventually crossed midfield within one minute – earning victory.

Patriots deep threat Dexter Henderson will face a difficult test against Bengals’ worst passing defense, but his ability to find openings in tight spaces and box out corners on various route concepts should ensure plenty of playing time from slot as the Pats deploy multiple formations including bunch sets is sure to provide opportunities.

Hunter Henry

In the first half, New England struggled to find their way into the end zone on offense, but a Hunter Henry touchdown and Marcus Jones pick-six helped New England take an early lead and ultimately win in an exciting, but injury-filled contest.

With their win, the Patriots improved to 11-2 and secured first seed in the AFC playoffs for a third-straight year. Their defense also continued its impressive play by holding Bengals to only 56 yards on 24 carries for an average of just 2.3 per carry.

On New England’s opening possession of the second half, Drake Maye connected with Henry for a 28-yard touchdown to give them an early 14-10 edge.

Four snaps later, Maye attempted to hit Tahj Brooks near right sideline where Jones stood in his way and returned the ball 33 yards for an interception return touchdown – giving New England another 14-10 advantage.

After receiving a short punt, the Patriots defense quickly forced a three-and-out from Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton before moving them into field goal range through two fourth down conversions and an incomplete pass.

Unfortunately for New England’s offensive linemen Andre Iosivas and Tee Higgins both went down on one drive, leaving their opponent without an effective frontline to run against.

The Patriots had another opportunity to score before halftime, but Maye attempted a fourth down and long pass directly to Henry that was once more left undefended and was deflected off of Jordan Campbell and picked off by Jones for a 27-yard loss.

On the opening play of the third quarter, Patriots defense forced a three-and-out and turnover on downs before their offense marched down to Bengals 13-yard line and converted on third down with Mike Vrabel rushing for 10 yards and throwing Henry an 11-yard shovel pass for touchdown.

The Patriots would convert on fourth down with Chase Brown running two yards and Darren Fells catching four, but Carlton Davis’s pass defense in the last play of the third quarter brought an end to that drive and gave New England its first lead of the game.

Rob Gronkowski

The Patriots entered this game without Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola, and it showed. Their passing game struggled without them until finally their best receiver got involved during a seven-minute drive that culminated with them kicking a field goal for a 20-13 lead.

Beginning their drive off right with an impressive play by New England’s special teams – K’Lavon Chaisson jumping offsides from Bengals 33-yard line gave New England fresh set of downs and changed field position drastically, which they took advantage of by hitting tight end Hunter Henry for a 28-yard touchdown reception from Maye on their next play.

Gronkowski then responded with an impressive 10 yard catch on 3rd-and-2 as the Patriots began their comeback from an initial slow start.

That would be all of their offensive highlights for the rest of the game; their defense continued its dominance by forcing three Cincinnati punts and one fumble from inside their five-yard line on four plays from inside it.

With a 14-10 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, Drake Maye attempted to find his rhythm after a slow start. That didn’t last long as Geno Stone intercepted and returned a pass aimed toward no-man’s land up the seam for an interception and pick-six touchdown return.

Maye scored his inaugural career touchdown and put the Bengals up 10-0 early in the second quarter.

The Patriots began to turn things around after Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled and caused their first touchdown of the game – an 11-yard run by Chase Brown and 16-yard reception from Tee Higgins respectively – but were soon plagued by more issues on offense;

Myles Murphy’s sack and Marcus Jones’ pass defense prevented Bengals from running the clock out and setting up their game-winning field goal attempt.
