QB Trevor Lawrence

Clemson first-round draft pick Trevor Lawrence could soon establish himself as one of the premier quarterback prospects in the NFL.

Since joining the Jaguars, Lawrence has flourished significantly since joining them, leading the AFC South in passing yards and touchdowns respectively while helping lead an offense that scored 30+ points four consecutive games including a pair of overtime thrillers.

Ashton Dulin’s 53-yard kickoff return put the Colts within striking distance of scoring their opening drive against the Jaguars’ 29-yard line, but Samsun Ebukam’s fumble allowed Jacksonville to take control on downs for good and prevent them from scoring on their second drive of the day. Their defense held strong and kept any potential scoring drives scoreless during this second quarter battle.

But the Colts took control in their final two possessions of the half. A pass to Dulin set up a field goal, while Mo Alie-Cox made his presence felt by scoring two field goals himself.

Their second scoring drive was cut short when Lawrence was taken out back-to-back sacks from Laiatu Latu and Zaire Franklin before punting on their next possession; their defense held off any attempt by the Colts at making a comeback attempt.

After the game, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen commented on Lawrence’s performance by noting he didn’t have great stats but still helped lead his team to victory. With their third consecutive win and maintaining top spot in AFC South division they face Houston Texans on Saturday to close out regular season play.

RB Travis Etienne Jr.

Trevor Lawrence threw two touchdown passes and Travis Etienne ran for two scores to lead Jacksonville past Indianapolis Colts for an AFC South victory on Saturday. Blake Grupe kicked a 33-yard field goal on the opening drive, while an Indianapolis fumble led directly to Etienne scoring on his 6-yard run to give Jacksonville an early lead at 10-0. It extended their winning streak at four consecutive games while increasing Indianapolis Colts losing streak in Jacksonville by 11 straight losses.

As rain continued to slow the game, the Colts attempted to catch up by mounting a long drive on their third possession. Mo Alie-Cox grabbed five yards and wide receiver Anthony Gould received 10 before Rivers’s third down pass was intercepted by defensive back Jarrian Jones and went for no gain.

Colts turned to backup quarterback Riley Leonard for the rest of the game, but Jaguars’ defense continued to prevent any comeback attempts by Lawrence.

Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen recorded a sack on the final play of the third quarter while linebacker Samsun Ebukam recovered Lawrence’s fumble, leading directly to a field goal by the Jags.

Jonathan Taylor’s 3-yard run on Jacksonville’s opening possession of the second half gave them a 20-7 advantage, but two fourth-quarter field goals by Cam Little from 43 and 42 yards respectively gave the Colts back the lead with just under six minutes left in regulation time – setting off an exciting finish!

On the Colts’ next possession, Jones intercepted a pass from Rivers to Jakobi Meyers and returned it for a touchdown – however Greg Zyskowski made a tackle-for-loss play and Neville Gallimore blocked any further progress with pass defensed.

With their win, the Jaguars improved to 13-3 and kept alive their playoff hopes by securing first seed of their division. A win at Houston or for Los Angeles Chargers to drop one of their final three matches will do. Indianapolis fell to 8-5 but remains within one game of earning one of three available wild card spots in AFC West.

WR Tim Patrick

After suffering an unexpected loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, the Jaguars looked for redemption against Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Field on Sunday. Amidst heavy rainfall and turnovers, Jaguars managed to pull through and remain first place in AFC South. Their win marked their second largest come-from-behind victory this year and increased their home record to 4-0 – both are historic milestones in any sport’s history.

Tim Patrick, one of the Jaguars’ undrafted rookie wide receivers, put on his best performance of the season on Wednesday against Carolina. Patrick can play in both slots and on the outside with great route running capabilities as well as deep ball ability allowing him to catch passes even during heavy traffic conditions.

He caught four passes for 87 yards and scored one touchdown against the Colts, including an one-yard reception that provided them their opening score of the game. To do this, he extended over his defender in order to catch it at its source in front of an end zone corner.

On the ensuing drive for the Colts, quarterback Andrew Rivers was intercepted by Jaguars safety Jarrian Jones at third and three from his own 31-yard line on third down, but their next play, an attempted toe-tap completion from Rivers to Mo Alie-Cox was incomplete and resulted in a first down.

Blake Grupe’s 29-yard field goal ended the first quarter, giving the Colts an early 10-0 advantage. Travis Etienne ran 30 yards for an easy one-yard touchdown catch by Patrick in the second quarter – scoring his team’s first points of the game!

On their next drive, each team traded possessions before Rivers was intercepted by Jaguars cornerback Samson Ebukam again on third and three from his own 20-yard line on third down – leading them downfield and eventually taking a lead when Lawrence connected with Patrick on a seven-yard pass before halftime.

Cam Little kicked a 23-yard field goal to end scoring in the fourth quarter, while holding Indianapolis to just 63 rushing yards during this second half rushing attempt and running back Leonard covering an incredible 155 yard distance for an individual game-high performance.

TE Will Mallory

Will Mallory was instrumental in leading Jacksonville to victory and taking control of the AFC South. A 2023 first-round pick out of Miami University, Mallory notched two touchdown passes while also scoring one on his own as part of an effective defensive unit which limited Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor to just 74 yards for the day.

Ashton Dulin’s 53-yard kickoff return put the Colts at Jaguars 39-yard line to start, and Blake Grupe kicked a 33-yard field goal for an early lead of 3-0 Colts. However, after just four plays Samsun Ebukam recovered fumble followed by one-handed interception by Devin Lloyd to give Jaguars 7-0 lead after just four plays!

Lawrence connected with Jakobi Meyers for a 14-yard touchdown pass during their next Jaguars drive, before Tim Patrick made an impressive 22-yard catch on fourth down on fourth and one to move the ball closer to Alec Pierce’s 10-yard line for fourth down and one play later Lawrence hit Patrick for seven yard score, increasing their lead to 21-7 with 12:52 left in the second quarter.

Even without Leonard Winston due to shoulder injury, the Jaguars’ offense remained dynamic. They threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns while running backs Travis Etienne Jr. and Tim Patrick combined for 117 yards and three scores.

Defensively, the Jaguars’ front four dominated. Linebacker Travon Walker sacked quarterback Matt Rivers with just seconds remaining in the first half; Josh Hines-Allen recorded two sacks and forced fumbles for himself this season.

The Jaguars suffered injuries to center Jonah Monheim (knee) and right guard Patrick Mekari (back), although starting left tackle Walker Little and backup left guard Maason Smith made returns following last week’s loss at Denver.

Their offense ranked eighth in scoring (4.32 ppg), fourth in total yards (554), sixth against run play (237 yards per game), 10th against passes (202.5 yards per game), respectively; which put them alone at the top of their division with two games in hand on division leader Houston Texans (AFC South).
