England vs West Indies ODI Series 2025

England went into this match looking to redeem themselves after their lackluster showing in their previous encounter.

Yet despite a promising start, their visitors missed numerous chances at victory before eventually succumbing to an aggressive West Indies side and ultimately falling by 30 runs – it was an intense match which showcased many excellent talents on both sides.

Edgbaston played an instrumental role in this matchup. With its fast pace and bounce surface, batsmen found it difficult to score freely; however, Windies bowlers did an outstanding job of making conditions unfavorable to England while slowing the run-rate to allow batsmen build partnerships and score quick runs quickly.

Sherfane Rutherford proved crucial for England, scoring an exceptional 76 off 42 balls to set up a formidable target against their hosts.

England struggled to keep up with this rate and its required rate; Sherfane Rutherford proved an effective contributor. Holder also contributed strongly, scoring 50 off 27 balls. England struggled in comparison.

Jofra Archer was forced to miss this match as he suffered an injured thumb during warm ups, forcing him out for the remaining ODI series and T20Is respectively. Meanwhile, Phil Salt remains unavailable as he is on paternity leave.

Due to rain, this match was reduced to 40 overs per side and won by Windies with England opting to bat first. England’s openers struggled early and made only limited inroads into West Indies’ line-up but managed to score 240/2 runs from their 40 overs.

Motie and Chase excelled during the early stages of England’s chase for victory, controlling the run rate and forcing England batters to manufacture shots.

Both spinners employed their variations and presentations well, keeping the ball at both low speeds as well as high ones; utilising their length effectively by forcing England into playing long innings that cost them dearly.

England vs West Indies T20I Series 2025

West Indies’ all-round performance enabled them to defeat England in a riveting T20I match at Edgbaston. Winning by 30-run margin, they registered their first win of the tournament while maintaining top position in Pool A with four points from two matches. England were overshadowed in all areas and struggled to match West Indies’ level of intensity.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, England struggled in its early innings with Archer and Curran falling quickly, while Hetmyer and Chase tried to fight back until Chase was taken out with a remarkable piece of skill by Darren Bravo; later Holder hit multiple boundaries to bring up an acceptable total for England.

But England’s batsmen had a disappointing outing, struggling to hit boundaries consistently and falling short of a target of 246 with six overs remaining. Their task was only made easier by spinners Rashid and Overton failing to grip onto the ball as expected, giving their bowlers some assistance towards reaching it.

West Indies made an immediate start in reply, taking wickets quickly thanks to Joseph and Sammy. By midway in their innings Hetmyer had hit some fine boundaries; although eventually dismissed by Sammy he had achieved a magnificent fifty off 42 balls!

However, the game took an unpleasant turn when Overton was given out lbw by Sherfane Rutherford. At first, umpires weren’t convinced that Rutherford had taken an accurate catch and so referred the decision back to the third umpire for review; after watching several replays it was confirmed that his catch had indeed been taken cleanly and Overton was given out as LBW.
