Assessing the Premier League Run-In

Categories :

There is a reason the Premier League is the most watched football division on the planet. From the drama and action on the pitch to the unpredictability and excitement of the table, billions of enthusiasts around the world tune in every single week. With successful, storied and historic clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United battling for supremacy, the competition is unrivalled.

The 2025/26 campaign has thrown up plenty of interesting narratives and some fans are now assessing the Premier League odds, favourites and underdogs before making their end-of-season bets. This article will assess the run-in and focus on the possible outcomes that could occur at the top and bottom of the standings.

Can Arsenal Finally do it?

It’s hard to believe but it’s now 22 years since Arsenal last lifted the Premier League trophy. The Gunners did the double back in 2004 under legendary manager Arsene Wenger and fans are desperate to see the team crowned champions of England again this season. Current boss Mikel Arteta has guided the club to three consecutive second-placed finishes but has been able to finish first. Pipped by either Manchester City or Liverpool, Arsenal have been in the title race but had to settle for a runner-up spot each time.

Now though, Arsenal are nine points clear at the top of the Premier League title though nearest challengers City do have a game in hand. What’s more, Arteta’s side still have to travel and face Pep Guardiola and his men at the Etihad Stadium and so a great deal rides on that game in April. Smart bettors will be looking at ways the Gunners could stumble and fall but the overall consensus among Premier League fans is that Arsenal finally finish in top spot.

The Race for Europe

While Arsenal and Manchester City are way out in front in the top two positions, there are six clubs all in a race for the European places, from the Champions League to the Europa League and Conference League. With seven games remaining, Manchester United are in the driving seat after finding a strong level of consistency under Michael Carrick following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Aston Villa are just a point behind and are up there under Unai Emery on the back of an eleven-game winning run across all competitions back in November and December.

Reigning champions Liverpool have endured a nightmare campaign under Arne Slot and given up their crown but will hope to salvage the season by at least qualifying for next year’s Champions League. Chelsea are stuttering under Liam Rosenior but will be hoping to at least hold on to sixth place in the table and then there’s surprise package Brentford who have earned a number of impressive results under Keith Andrews. Everton, meanwhile, have endured seasons of struggle battling relegation but appear to have turned a corner under David Moyes and are also right in the mix to qualify for football on the continent next term.

Could Tottenham Really Go Down?

Tottenham have had a disastrous Premier League season and have somehow found themselves in a relegation battle entering the final two months of the season. Spurs dismissed Thomas Frank in February and turned to former Juventus and Marseille manager Igor Tudor in a bid to improve results but slid further down the table as the Croatian lost five of his seven matches in charge.

Considered one of the teams that would push for Europe again this season having qualified for the Champions League after winning the Europa League in 2025, the season has not gone to plan. Spurs actually finished 17th last year too but had struggled with injuries and fitness setbacks. This time around, it feels Tottenham’s performances have simply not been up to scratch. Should London rivals West Ham win their next fixture at home to bottom club Wolves, Spurs will drop into bottom three with seven games to play. While most Premier League enthusiasts will expect Tottenham to play themselves out of trouble, looking at their upcoming games could provide insights and help fans predicting the final table to find some value.

Wrapping Up

Overall, the next two months of Premier League action is going to be a fascinating watch. Much of the focus will be on North London as Arsenal aim for the champion’s trophy while rivals Tottenham will be hoping to avoid dropping to the Championship.
