IPL 2026 Schedule

The Indian Premier League 2026 will kick off on March 28, with the 19th edition set to start featuring 84 matches – 10 more than last season – including its inaugural match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore – as it remains popular T20 league with over 100 million people tuning in each week to watch its games.

The 2026 IPL will be the inaugural tournament held under new regulations that include reduced match days, shorter innings length, and reduced bowling restrictions – designed to make the IPL more competitive and appeal to a broader audience. Furthermore, a single-elimination playoff will take place and be hosted at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Though IPL fans may still be wary of investing in its new rules, many remain reluctant to commit their money in its new season.

Some fans even switched teams after World Cup; nevertheless, the IPL remains one of India’s most lucrative sports leagues thanks to these changes which have also attracted more international players into its fold.

Gujarat Titans (GT) will enter this season’s IPL hoping to secure another title after finishing third last time out. Their captain Shubman Gill and Ashish Nehra have both returned as coaches while some notable additions have been made during IPL mini auction such as fast bowlers Tom Banton and Sherfane Rutherford as fast bowlers, plus former Australia opener Matthew Hayden as an addition.

The 2026 Indian Premier League will consist of four double-header days with afternoon matches starting at 3:30 PM IST and evening matches commencing at 7:30 PM IST, respectively.

A full schedule will be released once state elections in Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have concluded; this will allow for longer play and ensure no clashes with Pakistan Super League are caused. In addition to this announcement from BCCI that IPL would take place over multiple phases due to election dates for certain states.

Match 1

On March 31 at 7:30 PM IST, Punjab Kings will face Gujarat Titans in their inaugural Indian Premier League 2026 clash at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. This double-header marks one of four doubleheaders that will feature during Phase 1.

After a disappointing IPL 2024 campaign, Punjab decided to make a fresh start this year. They retained only Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh from that squad while recruiting players like Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Arshdeep Singh at auction; as well as investing heavily in bowling attack through signing Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna etc – creating a team ready to win big!

Keep an eye out for GT as they begin their campaign strongly. Shubman Gill will lead his side and will look to prove himself after being dropped from India’s T20I squad last season. GT can provide him an opportunity to demonstrate his talent and push back into national selection if he excels for them.

Jos Buttler will partner him at the top of their order, giving PBKS an excellent foundation from which to start their innings. A strong opening partnership will be key as 250-plus totals become increasingly commonplace; additionally, their side will look to make an aggressive start – something they have struggled with in previous seasons.

As for the rest of their squad, they will need to decide who will open with Shreyas Iyer. He could be joined at the top of the order by either Priyansh Arya or Azmatullah Omarzai depending on which they opt for; should they choose Omarzai they would need to drop Josh Inglis from their lineup leaving just three overseas players behind them.

Chandigarh stadium’s extra bounce and carry will provide ideal conditions for their bowlers including Yuzvendra Chahal who could perform extremely well at bowling sessions!

Match 2

The 2026 Indian Premier League season will commence on March 31 with an evening fixture between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh starting at 7:30 PM IST.

The initial phase will consist of 20 matches including four double headers for each team in Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow and Ahmedabad before concluding on May 12 at 3:30 PM IST with Bangalore hosting the final game.

Ricky Ponting’s plans to make this IPL Punjab side the greatest ever are already evident with them spending big money on international stars like Shreyas Iyer and Glenn Maxwell as well as strengthening their bowling department with Kagiso Rabada, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna joining PBKS’ bowlers.

However, one key area for PBKS will be their batting. Shubman Gill will lead from the front, with Jos Buttler providing a significant boost. Wriddhiman Saha provides veteran experience while David Miller and Rahul Tewatia can offer additional cover.

Buttler will bolster PBKS’ overseas bowling attack; however, Josh Inglis and Azmatullah Omarzai remain as their leading candidates to fill this spot. Selecting Omarzai would require opening two uncapped batters against an aggressive bowling attack – making for a difficult choice between these two candidates.

GT have an excellent record against PBKS in IPL, having won three out of their five encounters against them. Their last meeting resulted in an exciting three-wicket win at Mullanpur on April 20, 2024 – an outcome which would give GT a good chance at finishing in the top half of the table; however, this match will prove challenging; Sony TEN Sports in India will broadcast it.

Match 3

India’s premier Twenty20 tournament will kick-off on March 28, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Sunrisers Hyderabad at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In its opening stage of 2018, 20 matches will take place across 10 venues: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad.

On April 4th, two doubleheaders will take place: Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium and Gujarat Titans against Rajasthan Royals at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. IPL 2026 will feature 84 matches at iconic locations across India, providing fans with all of the same exciting entertainment as they’ve come to expect from one of the world’s biggest T20 leagues. A full schedule will be revealed shortly.
