RR vs PBKS

Rajasthan Royals have struggled to maintain their form since beginning this season’s Indian Premier League strongly.

All four games they’ve been involved in since January have ended in defeat and they appear unlikely to reach the playoffs; therefore this match against Punjab Kings could be crucial in helping Rajasthan Royals avoid relegation.

This game between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings (PBKS) marks their inaugural IPL match since returning from an enforced break, without Marcus Stonis or Josh Inglis who have both been called back home to Australia for World Cup duty; their absence could alter Punjab Kings batting orders significantly.

Priyansh Arya and Yashasvi Jaiswal of PBKS have hit an astounding 51 sixes this season – 19 in powerplay play alone! Together, their partnership of 89 runs off 10 balls against Sunrisers has played an instrumental part in Punjab’s strong start.

The Punjab Kings’ bowling unit has seen substantial improvements this year. Their spinners have taken several wickets over recent matches; specifically Nehal Wadhera and Harpreet Brar have proven especially adept. These efforts have enabled Punjab to move up into second on the points table.

The Royals boast an excellent record against the Punjab Kings at Sawai Man Singh Stadium and they will look to extend it in this match, starting at 3:30 PM IST on Sunday and available live to stream via Jio Hotstar or Star Sports Network or Network 18 (telecast available too). However, light conditions could prove challenging for both teams involved due to it being played on a day-night pitch.

Match 59 of IPL 2025

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India. The 2025 IPL season kicked off on 22 March at 13 venues across India and will culminate on 3 June when its final is staged. Four teams qualified from Qualifier 1 advanced to play in playoffs while those eliminated will battle it out in Eliminator mode.

Rajasthan Royals remain competitive despite losing three games early in the season, as evidenced by five wins out of their last seven at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur – winning against PBKS would give them another boost towards reaching the final.

In their previous encounter between these two sides, PBKS won an impressive 10-run win at home to move them up into second place – just 10 points behind KKR – due in no small part to Nehal Wadhera scoring an unbeaten 70 off 37 balls and spinner Harpreet Brar claiming three wickets for them to swing the match their way.

RP’s early struggle saw them reduced to 35/3 in the third over, before recovering with Yashasvi Jaiswal and 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi both scoring quickfire half centuries that brought them back into contention.

Unfortunately, however, a brilliant catch by Azmatullah Omarzai in the eighth over saw Jaiswal dismissed for 50 and soon afterwards Brar bowled an outstanding spell that saw Suryavanshi out after scoring 40 off 24 balls off just 24 deliveries – leaving them needing 55 runs from six overs to reach 139/6 before Dhruv Jurel was out by Marco Jansen for 53 off 31 balls – leaving RR needing 55 runs off 6 overs if only Dhruv Jurel could help out, only being dismissed by Marco Jansen after bowler Brar bowled an outstanding spell to remove him both during RR innings before Omarzai played brilliantly to catch Azmatullah Omarzai after Omarzai had caught him off just 8 balls from 24 balls later that over bowling spell. Unfortunately Dhruv Jurel couldn’t help them in being dismissed off 31 balls before being dismissed off Marco Jansen for 53 off 31 balls.

Venue

Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings will square off in 59th match of Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Tuesday.

Rajasthan Royals boast an unmatched 5-1 home record against Punjab Kings; therefore they will look to continue this streak against their arch rivals.

This game will have an enormous bearing on the IPL playoffs as it marks the final league game before play-offs commence. PBKS currently lie third in the table and two wins will guarantee them top two finish. In addition, their game against Delhi Capitals which was postponed due to rain has been scheduled to recur on May 24 and this gives PBKS another shot at qualifying.

Royals captain Ricky Ponting will be looking to turn things around this match. After their 11 run loss against Delhi Capitals in their previous game, Royals have struggled in run chases this season and this needs to be addressed first and foremost.

The Royals will be buoyed by the return from injury of Jofra Archer and Maheesh Theekshana, both players having made impressive returns this season.

Both are expected to lead their side’s charge alongside solid batsmen like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Riyan Parag and Nehal Wadhera, SK Gayle and Siddharth Trivedi who should lead a formidable bowling unit against Punjab Kings who they feel confident of an impressive result and winning ways against.

Predictions

Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings have met 29 times since 2008 in the Indian Premier League, and won 17 times compared to 12 victories by each side.

Michael Lumb was instrumental in their first matchup on April 21, 2008 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur; scoring an unbeaten 76 off 49 balls with seven fours and five sixes as the Royals claimed victory by six wickets.

The Royals have had a difficult season so far, winning only three out of eleven games. While they still hope to qualify for the playoffs, they will need help from other teams if they hope to do so.

Without Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger for much of this year, but still boast an extensive pool of international players such as Wanindu Hasaranga and Shimron Hetmyer as options, Faz Farooqi, Kwena Maphaka as potential lineup choices while Sanju Samson should return from his tournament suspension later this month and may play in certain matches should he feel well enough.

Even though their record may indicate otherwise, the Royals have had some impressive victories this season. Notably they beat Delhi Daredevils twice and Mumbai Indians once. Additionally they were the only team able to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad this year.

Punjab Kings have enjoyed one of their best IPL seasons in years under Shreyas Iyer. Sitting third with 15 points from 11 matches and needing just one more victory to secure a playoff berth, their advantage over Royals lies in having had their abandoned match with Delhi Capitals replayed and giving them one last shot at reaching top two finish.

Live Streaming

Willow TV will livestream the match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings on multiple devices beginning at 3:30 p.m. EST. It serves as the official broadcaster for cricket events in America and offers multiple streaming options, so fans don’t miss a thing!

Since 2008, both teams have competed against one another 30 times in the Indian Premier League and Royals have emerged victorious 17 times to 13 for Kings. Seven matches between these two sides took place at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur with Royals winning five of these contests.

At present, the Royals sit in fifth place on the table with 15 points while their rivals from Los Angeles hold second spot with 16. A win for RR would give them some breathing room in the playoff race and give a significant confidence boost as they enter the final phase of the season.

Jaipur pitches have historically favored batters, but this time should be different. According to weather predictions, temperatures during the day may reach 42 degrees and decrease to 31 by evening time.

This match will be the biggest of the season in terms of television viewers. An estimated 500 million will tune in via their television sets or other devices; an unprecedented feat for an Indian Premier League match that is sure to set new trends when it comes to live viewing.
