Zimbabwe vs South Africa

The Zimbabwe national cricket team represents Zimbabwean in international and domestic cricket matches both at home and abroad, competing as members of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Recently, however, financial issues have led to several tournament cancellations as well as difficulties finding suitable sponsors for domestic league franchises closing down.

Zimbabwe, during its initial years as a Test nation, boasted some top-class talent. Wicket-keeper/batsman Andy Flower once stood a chance at becoming one of the best Test batters ever; his brother Grant Flower as well as Heath Streak, Andy Blignaut and Neil Johnson provided solid allround performances; even at the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup they finished fifth out of eight groups!

Political unrest quickly took its toll. At the 2003 World Cup, Flower and Henry Olonga staged black armband protests against Robert Mugabe’s regime; eventually they sought political asylum abroad. A player revolt following Streak’s removal as captain caused further turmoil within Zimbabwean football; ultimately leading the International Cricket Council (ICC) to suspend their Test status until seven years later when it was reinstated.

Zimbabwe’s return to international cricket in ODI and T20I formats was less than impressive, losing both series against Bangladesh and South Africa and failing to progress past their 2014 World T20 campaign against Netherlands – who won both matches by large margins while progressing due to superior net run rate.

Zimbabwe have seen considerable improvements recently. They made history against Australia when they surprised everyone by winning their inaugural Test since returning to international cricket despite coming into it as heavy underdogs, thanks largely to Ryan Burl’s incredible bowling performance – 4-22 was his best bowling performance against Australia since 1981!

Match Predictions

South Africa are hoping to end Zimbabwe’s dreams of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and are confident of doing just that at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Zimbabwe have scored just once in three of their previous four matches – so we should expect another low-scoring contest on Saturday!

Michael Nees will be looking to spark his team’s performance following their dispiriting defeat to Namibia last time out. Zimbabwe looked disinterested and without ideas in the field while their batting proved ineffectual compared to Namibia – managing only two big shots during an innings and hoping that could improve when taking on South Africans this weekend.

South Africa enter this match fresh off their comfortable 3-1 win against Lesotho, and are firm favorites to continue their impressive record in this group. As one of the best attacking teams, they have recorded three clean sheets so far; something Zimbabwe excel at doing. South Africa will look to build upon that against them by keeping a clean sheet themselves; their primary strength lies in scoring goals themselves.

Rubin Hermann and Dewald Brevis were South Africa’s stars in their comprehensive victory against Lesotho, and are likely to start together again here. Their aggressive 106-run partnership was key to South Africa’s victory; and this pair will look to emulate that strategy to put Lesotho on the back foot right from the outset of this contest.

South Africa are currently dominating their group and we expect them to secure another comfortable victory on Saturday. Their defensive unit has proven superior to Zimbabwe’s so we recommend backing ‘South Africa To Win And Under 3.5 Goals’ with Betway at odds of 1.38 (67%) as they have won all five previous matches against them and boast an excellent track record in this competition.

Head-to-Head Record

South Africa and Zimbabwe have met four times previously, with South Africa coming out victorious three times while drawing once.

Zimbabwe are facing off against Bafana with little confidence and must win their remaining matches to have any chance at qualifying for next year’s finals. Their coach Michael Nees’ side have an ideal chance at doing just that at Moses Mabhida Stadium which will be filled with vuvuzelas.

This match could turn out to be an exciting goal fest, with both teams possessing plenty of firepower up front.

Zimbabwe have shown better form away from home recently and scored in all of their five recent away matches; South Africa have only managed two goals out of the last five they played this season; moreover over 50% of their games ended without scoring; hopefully that can change come Sunday if these two meet again; FotMob is available across web, iOS and Android to follow the action live wherever you may be!

Team News

Zimbabwe’s cricket team comprises players from each of its ten administrative provinces in Zimbabwe. Home games take place at either Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo or Harare Sports Club in Harare, with notable batsmen like Tatenda Taibu, Hamilton Masakadza and Brendan Taylor serving as some of its greatest stars during this era. Tatenda Taibu became one of the world’s premier batsmen at the turn of the 21st century and took Zimbabwean cricketing history into new horizons both locally and globally.

Early years as a Test nation were marked by underwhelming performances; however, towards the late 1990s Zimbabwe’s performances improved and they earned respect from cricket enthusiasts due to their quality all-rounders and reaching finals of multiple one-day international tournaments.

Zimbabwe continued their winning ways during the second decade of the 21st century in one-day internationals but have struggled at major tournaments, with notable wins coming at 2022 T20 World Cup Perth against Pakistan by one run and Sylhet against Bangladesh in an away series win.

In January of 2015, the Zimbabwe Cricket board took an unconventional step and appointed Dav Whatmore as coach. Since then, their results have been mixed but there are signs of improvement in performance.

This has become particularly evident in one-day cricket, where the Chevrons have experienced mixed fortunes recently but managed to win several matches, including defeating UAE and beating Sri Lanka convincingly.

Zimbabwe remains an underrated team when it comes to ODI cricket and will likely find it challenging to make an immediate impression at the World Cup tournament. But they hope to build on recent performances and gain momentum ahead of competition.

Zimbabwe opened their T20s campaign with an emphatic win against Australia before drawing with England. Zimbabwe were given an additional boost when Brendan Taylor returned after scoring two consecutive centuries and will look to lead them towards an unexpected result in South Africa.
