Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS)
With only three wins out of 12 matches, RR’s playoff hopes have all but vanished. If they want to salvage any dignity in this campaign, two victories in their remaining matches must come quickly and other results need to go their way.
RR was led by Graeme Smith with an unbeaten unassailable unbeaten 77 off 44 balls which included 13 fours and sixes off 44 deliveries from him, and opener Shreyas Iyer who scored an unbeaten 30 off 25 balls off 20 deliveries in quick time. Once middle order came into play Nehal Wadhera took charge with an incredible unbeaten 67 off 37 deliveries that featured six fours and sixes for good measure.
Bowlers struggled to contain PBKS batters as they raced to a commanding lead during the opening powerplay.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi took an early commanding lead, setting an outstanding partnership of 83 off 24 balls between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi before Harpreet Brar’s outstanding bowling (who would go on to become Impact Player of the match) managed to pull things back by striking blows against both left-handers before sealing victory by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh for zero runs later in his run chase.
However, PBKS had enough cushion to see out the remaining overs without losing too many runs despite losing some wickets late on;
Azmatullah Omarzai scored unbroken 59 off 30 balls while Shashank Singh posted an unbeaten 71 off 39 deliveries, helping PBKS reach home with 10 balls remaining.
PBKS have now won 17 out of 29 matches against RR and are on the brink of qualifying for playoffs. Thanks to this win, they now move up into second place on the table.
Punjab Kings have had great success at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, winning five out of their seven matches here. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have yet to experience victory here and will hope for better fortune when they visit on Thursday.

Rajasthan Royals vs Punjab Kings (RR)
Since 2008, the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings have met 30 times in the Indian Premier League since 2008. Of those matches, 17 have gone to Rajasthan Royals while 13 were drawn. Most fixtures took place at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for maximum audience involvement.
RR started their season strong by winning their opening four matches; however, subsequent losses saw them slip further down the table, ultimately missing out on a play-off spot.
However, they remain one of the best teams to watch during run-chases. Priyansh Arya and Yashasvi Jaiswal both scored at least 10 sixes each during powerplay this season while Vaibhav Suryvanshi’s 36-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders is amongst some of his finest innings this year as an opener.
Jos Buttler made history during that match, becoming only the fifth-fastest 50 scorer ever in IPL history with 18 balls to help Royal Challengers chase down 151 runs for victory. Additionally, he equalled Virender Sehwag’s record of most consecutive fifties during a single tournament and was recognized as Player of the Match.
The Royals have earned themselves a reputation in IPL auctions for purchasing relatively unknown or uncapped players at cut-throat prices, yet have had considerable success building a competitive team for future success.
Notable acquisitions include Dinesh Salunkhe and Pravin Tambe, along with internationally-acclaimed cricketers like Shane Watson, Rahul Dravid, Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson – to name just a few!
RR has suffered injuries to Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma this season, leaving their bowling unit thin on options and lacking quality. Kwena Maphaka, Mitchell Owen and Kyle Jamieson may likely fill those spots.

No matter who won the toss, the Royals appeared in good position to post a big score after two quick wickets from Azmatullah Omarzai and Harpreet Brar reduced RR’s home side to 105/4 by the 11th over.
Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted to keep RR competitive by scoring 50 off 24 balls before being dismissed by Brar; Shashank Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai then took charge, scoring 60 runs between them over four overs to put PBKS into a strong position.

When Jofra Archer struck with two quick wickets from Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel within four consecutive overs by Jofra Archer leaving them reeling at 162/4. Siddharth Trivedi hit two sixes and one boundary during his unbeaten innings of 89 off 47 balls to give RR some momentum back.
This match was an exciting thriller and its final score truly reflected its intensity. PBKS made history when they overcame years of struggling in the bottom half of the table to earn their first victory at Sawai Mansingh Stadium since 2010. Additionally, this win put RBKS in good stead to qualify for playoffs this year.
