ODIs

This ODI series will be crucial for both teams as they look to strengthen their squads ahead of the ICC World Cup 2027.

Both sides enter with confidence after strong performances in recent ODI assignments – Pakistan thumped Sri Lanka while Bangladesh claimed a hard-fought 2-1 series win against West Indies earlier in October.

Coaches may use these matches as an opportunity to experiment with different combinations and assess bench strength over 50-over games.

This series will consist of three One Day Internationals (ODIs), starting with the first game on March 11 and concluding with the last on March 15.

All matches will take place at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and the Pakistan team is expected to arrive in Dhaka on March 9 and attend training session prior to beginning their series against Bangladesh on March 10.

This will mark the second time these teams meet in a three-match ODI series since July 2025 when Pakistan won it 3-0 but Bangladesh managed to avoid being completely whitewashed through Tamim Iqbal’s brilliant partnership of 145 runs with Asif Ahmed Sarkar in the final match. Although Bangladesh lost, their fight spirit and desire for improvement was clear to see.

Bangladesh will look to continue their successful ODI campaign in this series, which will serve as an important preparation for their participation at the ICC World Cup later this year.

They already have permission to play four Tests, 12 ODIs and nine T20Is at home this year – Mustafizur Rahman even broke Jasprit Bumrah’s record by bowling out Pakistan in T20I action earlier this month!

On March 11, Pakistan and Bangladesh will compete in their opening ODI in Shere Bangla. Both teams should field strong rosters; with Pakistan boasting some of the finest batsmen currently playing worldwide (such as Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq), while Bangladesh possessing some promising young talent that is sure to shine in this matchup.

T20Is

At first glance, it’s an idyllic scene at this World Cup tournament in India with supporters, both home and away, dancing on grass banks and stands. But something is sadly lacking: Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently made the surprising announcement that their team would not travel to India for their three-match ODI series scheduled to start March 9 in Mirpur.

This decision was taken as a show of solidarity with Bangladesh following their exclusion from tournament play, and came shortly after International Cricket Council (ICC) refused their team permission to play against India in Colombo as to not set “precedents that undermine neutrality and fairness”.

Shehbaz Sharif voiced his displeasure with this decision by demanding reconsideration from ICC to change their decision and requested they reconsidered it reconsider its position before considering travel plans to Mirpur for three ODI matches starting on March 9.

Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of Pakistan’s Cricket Board, warned earlier today that his team may boycott if the International Cricket Council (ICC) refuses their request to play their match against India in Sri Lanka instead of Dubai.

Naqvi called Bangladesh’s removal an injustice and called out the ICC’s double standard by inviting India but not Pakistan.

Bangladesh and Pakistan both enter this tournament with impressive forms, having recently dominated both ODI series against Sri Lanka and T20I series against Ireland respectively. Both will look to use these matches to further mould their 50-over lineups.

Pakistan will debut their revamped bowling attack for the first time during this series of ODIs, thanks to PCB addition of former paceman Shoaib Akhtar who believes Pakistan’s emerging fast bowling group can become a serious threat at next year’s T20 World Cup.

Experienced players such as Mohammad Asif and Shahbaz Rasheed have also been added to the squad alongside promising youngsters such as Mohammad Hafeez and Mohammad Abdur Razzak.

Tests

Pakistan continues its longstanding dominance of ODI and T20 cricket; however, Bangladesh’s rise has brought competitiveness and new narratives into this South Asian rivalry. The upcoming series promises yet another chapter of aspiration, adversity, and glory between these two archrivals.

Bangladesh and Pakistan’s players stand out as being humble, genuine, and genuine in an age when many influential people in sports seem arrogant and self-important.

Their players exemplify a way of life more than just sport; playing represents connecting with those around you while sharing joys and struggles of daily life through cricket. Their rivalry embodies all that makes cricket great: high drama battles with fierce loyalty being at its core.

Bangladesh and Pakistan first faced each other in a Test match for the Meril Challenge Cup back in 1999, providing Bangladesh with their inaugural international experience against an experienced Pakistan team – it served both teams well, though the match itself provided Bangladesh with invaluable lessons about global competition as they learned how to do battle on an equal playing field.

Pakistan won decisively, giving Bangladesh both confidence and humility a boost as the newcomers struggled against experienced opposition. It proved both rewarding and informative for them both sides.

Over time, their Test encounters became more frequent and intense, with Bangladesh beginning to show glimpses of their true potential as they played more matches against Pakistan – though Pakistan dominated, some games proved truly gripping viewing experiences.

Pakistan-Bangladesh Test series that have made an impressionful statement about both sides’ maturing as competitors are the ones which stand out the most, such as when spectacular batting from Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal collided with Pakistan’s disciplined competitiveness to produce entertaining yet captivating contests that mesmerised fans worldwide.

Now considered modern classics, these matches bear witness to Bangladesh cricket’s growth while creating new legends in its own right – an impressive testament of Bangladesh cricket that continues its rivalry as it engages in further Test fixtures that promise even greater artistic prowess as they face fiercer battles showcasing elite artistry while fiercer competition that are sure to electrify stadiums across the globe!

Pakistan was granted Test status in 1952, yet a dramatic win at The Oval in 1954 cemented their legacy worldwide. Pakistan didn’t begin making waves at major tournaments until the 80s, when they started regularly appearing in later stages.

Their first international trophy came in 1992. Over the next decade they established themselves further and started off the 21st century strong by winning titles such as ICC Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup and Asia Cup.

Since then, Pakistan have made remarkable gains to become one of the premier teams in international cricket; currently ranking fourth.

They have taken part in all 13 editions of the World Cup, reaching the semifinals three times and boasting star players like Sarfraz Ahmed, Mohammad Amir and Asif Ali – yet to claim victory themselves!

The next few weeks will be crucial for both teams, with only the top two advancing to the semi-finals and a potential place in the final. Pakistan have an excellent track record at West End Park Stadium in Doha having won five out of seven matches there.

Both teams will look to build on recent successes when they face each other in the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars final. Bangladesh A advanced to this showdown with an intense victory against India A that ended up going to Super Over thanks to Ripon Mondol’s perfectly timed double-wicket over.
