South Africa vs New Zealand
The South Africa cricket team is the national cricket team of South Africa and represents it internationally in international cricket matches.
It is governed by the South African Cricket Board (CSA), competing in all forms of cricket including Test matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals under Aiden Markram as its captain.
The Proteas have made an excellent start to their tournament campaign, winning both their group matches.
Should they beat Afghanistan on their final group encounter it could be enough for them to advance to the Super 8s.
They boast the best net run rate among any of their four matches played so far and currently stand as top side in Group 4.
New Zealand made their international cricket debut in 1888 but initially struggled, taking 17 years and 10 years before they could consistently defeat teams such as Australia and England in Test matches.
By the 1960s however, New Zealand had established itself as a strong county side that could compete with international sides but were still incapable of matching Australia or England for sheer power and might.
After an initially slow start, New Zealand have slowly made progress thanks to Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman’s fifth-wicket stand of 74 off 44 balls – however, Proteas bowler Lungi Ngidi continues to bowl slower balls and cutters, but batsmen remain calm despite this pressure from her bowlers.
Markram is in incredible form, racing to his half-century off just 19 balls to give the chase a significant boost.
Quinton de Kock has been dismissed for a duck after mistiming a pull shot to long-on. Now, batsmen need to step up or risk falling behind in this contest.
Jacob Duffy makes an outstanding short third man stop to collect De Kock and Markram’s off-back foot drive that was claimed at short third man by Jacob Duffy but that does not signal its end as they both continue driving hard at the ball. Black Caps could miss out on a big total but must continue putting the ball into play and capitalising on any errors from Proteas players.
Match Summary
The Black Caps have long been celebrated for outperforming expectations in one-day cricket, consistently outshone by bigger teams worldwide.
Through resourcefulness they have competed and defeated those with greater talent; winning two ICC KnockOut Trophies and four semi-finals along the way.
New Zealand have made an impressive start to their World Cup campaign, with all five bowlers picking up wickets during their initial matches.
Their batsmen also appear in good form, with Corey Anderson and Brendon McCullum making particularly notable contributions.
New Zealand will need to win many of their remaining matches if they hope to qualify for the Super 8s, so this game at Narendra Modi Stadium provides them with an excellent opportunity to do just that.
Both teams currently boast perfect records in Group D; therefore whoever triumphs here will advance further and claim top position.
South Africa have started their chase confidently, with Aiden Markram in devastating form. From delicate cover drives to audacious back-foot punches for sixes, Markram shows complete mastery as he hits 45 runs off just 16 balls in the powerplay phase alone.
Lockie Ferguson had earlier given their innings an excellent start when he caught Quinton de Kock off Lockie Ferguson for 30 runs early on in their innings.
As the final overs begin, a dew begins to settle, leaving New Zealand struggling to keep pace. Marco Jansen removes Mark Chapman for 48 as his lower order struggles for runs; Lungi Ngidi and Corbin Bosch both pick up wickets to reduce their side’s score to 147/7.
David Miller then unleashed a six over midwicket off Rabada to cap an outstanding win for the Proteas. They reached their target in 17 overs due to Aiden Markram’s brilliant batting, and this performance bodes well for their World Cup hopes; having reached the semi-finals, there’s little doubt they are among favourites to claim victory this time around.

South Africa start on a strong footing, with Aiden Markram making 45 off 16 deliveries, from elegant cover drives to audacious back-foot punches for six. Ryan Rickelton soon follows suit by hitting Lungi Ngidi for successive boundaries through offside before smashing one over deep midwicket for an astonishing 103-metre six. Ferguson manages a brief respite with a slower ball that traps de Kock but otherwise South Africa are in full flight.
New Zealand quickly bounces back after experiencing some initial nerves during their middle overs, with Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson keeping it tight – only nine runs came off of the 10th over – as batters smartly rotate strike. Daryl Mitchell makes several key singles off Rabada before getting some luck when his miscued pull lobs straight to long-on.
Black Caps suddenly find themselves losing wickets at an alarming rate with Rabada quickly taking advantage of Finn Allen’s expansive drive – flying into Quinton de Kock’s gloves after flying off his bat and into Rabada’s hands.
Furthermore, Rabada takes an edge off Tim Seifert with an unusual slower ball but the Kiwi batter remains safe, leading to their score falling to 88/3 after seven overs.
New Zealand’s middle order had difficulty keeping pace with the run rate, but James Neesham provided a timely burst of runs late on.
Following two dot balls and tight yorkers from Corbin Bosch, Neesham struck two fours off spinner Luke Fletcher before hitting one final delivery out to boundary for 10 as New Zealand reached 175/7; Markram reached an outstanding 71 off 37 balls.

Kagiso Rabada strikes gold by trapping Finn Allen with a slow outside off ball that drives into his expansive drive and hits straight for mid-off where Aiden Markram quickly dives forward to take an excellent catch.
New Zealand have suffered multiple wickets with Glenn Phillips and Keshav Maharaj departing, yet James Neesham has provided some late momentum. He batted over square leg off Corbin Bosch to score four and then hit his full toss down the ground past long-on for another four.
South Africa are keeping things tight in the death overs, with Reeza Hendricks and Daniel Vettorius needing to score faster if they want to reach their targets. Nqaba Peter and Corbin Bosch both bowl well but should speed up their deliveries in order to keep New Zealand batsmen guessing in these final overs.
