He found a gap and ran 87 yards for his inaugural punt return touchdown of the year, helping the Patriots score 14-6 and extend their lead Carolina Panthers Vs New England Patriots Match Player Stats.

Stefon Diggs & Rob Gronkowski
Early on in this game, the Patriots controlled both sides of the ball – their defense stopped Carolina on their opening drive and forced a three-and-out, while Bryce Young made one crossing midfield before overthrowing Darren McMillan with an overthrown pass destined to land wide open near midfield – forcing a punt.
The Patriots had better success on their next drive, though it was short lived. A face mask penalty against Austin Hooper cost them 15 yards on their initial possession; that turned into their only big play of that drive until New England converted on third down with Stefon Diggs’ 33-yard reception on third down and took the lead for good.
Carolina’s opening drive was also poor. They started well with some impressive running plays before Delhomme attempted an incomplete pass to Muhsin Muhammad on fourth down conversion attempt – this decision turned out to be poor as had it worked, it would have led to a successful conversion and two points would have been earned for Carolina.
On the next drive, special teams came through for the Patriots on offense. Although Marcus Jones, their punt returner was surrounded by Panthers defenders during punt return play, he calmly navigated around them to find an open lane before sprinting upfield for an 87-yard touchdown to give Mike Vrabel’s tenure its inaugural home game win since 2021 and 40 point output by his team.
Chris Hogan & Dante Pettis
New England took an early advantage in the second quarter when Marcus Jones returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown, setting off their offense and setting them on their path towards their first home win under Mike Vrabel and first 40-point output at Foxborough since 2021.
Drake Maye continued his impressive play in the passing game, completing 14 of 17 passes and amassing an impressive amount of yardage – an encouraging sign that Josh McDaniels’ offense is starting to gel more fully.
Defense also made some key plays during their initial drive. Chaisson made two key stops, forcing a three-and-out and providing good field position for Bryce Young who was able to cross midfield before his drive was stopped by Patriots defense on third down and fourth down and was ultimately punted away from midfield.
On Carolina’s next possession, their defense again held firm on third and fourth down but were unable to gain any traction as they tried to convert a fourth-down play. Hunter Henry recorded one of the day’s best receptions – 31 yards!
On their next drive, the Panthers faced a third-and-1 situation and had an opportunity to extend their lead, but Young threw an underthrown back shoulder fade to McMillan who was open in space on the sideline. Meanwhile, New England ran 40 times with Hill, Gillislee, and Webb rushing for 140 yards and 12 first downs while scoring on all three trips into red zone while going 2-for-2 on two-point conversions; New England also dominated in rushing defense.

Sony Michel & James White
James White returned to Gillette Stadium Monday night following his father’s tragic car crash, where both of them died, to an enthusiastic reception and cheers from home crowd.
The Patriots defense kept up their success from last week by shutting down Panthers offensive on their opening drive, forcing a three-and-out. Once on their 20-yard line, the Patriots started making progress by picking up chunk yardage quickly: Austin Hooper caught a screen pass for 24 yards while Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson each ran two big plays of 21 yards and 23 yards respectively before Drake Maye made his presence felt with a five-yard touchdown run that put their opponents away for good.
After that, the Patriots punted, but Marcus Jones managed to run through all those in front of him and score a 61-yard return touchdown, setting up another scoring drive before Marcus returned the following kickoff 87 yards for another score – expanding their lead further!
Young attempted to give the Panthers an energy boost on their next drive, moving past midfield. However, things fell apart following two bad plays from their offensive line; Chaisson received a sack on one play while Young overthrew Tetairoa McMillan down the sideline on another attempt and ultimately punted.
After Matt Bryant of the Panthers missed a field goal from 55 yards out, the Patriots took over for a second time after taking advantage of an offensive face mask penalty against Carolina; unfortunately they weren’t able to capitalize and were forced to punt again.
Trey Flowers & Dante Pettis
After an inauspicious beginning, New England’s defense finally found its groove and successfully shut down Carolina on their next drive. K’Lavon Chaisson made an important run stop while Christian Barmore delivered an important second-down sack that resulted in a punt.
The Panthers managed to cross midfield on their next possession but were then forced into an ineffective four-and-five drive due to Bryce Young throwing behind Tetairoa McMillan during a third down play on 3rd and 10. This ultimately resulted in 4th down and 5.
Drake Maye connected with Pettis for two touchdown passes that propelled New England’s offense to a 13-0 advantage early in the first quarter. Pettis made all five targets he attempted for 60 yards and returned two punts for 17-yard returns on an incredible performance from this journeyman wideout/returner.
Pettis scored his first touchdown of the game after making a contested catch from Maye’s 24-yard deep shot, while rookie receiver Will Pettis made a spectacular grab by rolling over and catching a tipped ball for another score.
On their next possession, Maye completed a 28-yard pass to Pettis to set up their third punt return of the game: Marcus Jones returned 61 yards for another impressive punt return – matching his season total and matching franchise records for most punt return yards by any Panthers player.
The Panthers managed to convert on three fourth down plays before halftime, though Rhamondre Stevenson’s 21-yard run was their lone major play and left them trailing 28-6 at intermission. New England’s defense proved decisive and prevented any big plays from developing in Carolina’s offense during the second half.
Rob Gronkowski & Dante Pettis
After an uncertain first drive, New England’s offense quickly found their rhythm and started making big plays. On third and 10 from their 23-yard line, Tom Brady connected with Stefon Diggs for 33 yards on third down from their 23-yard line to move New England into Carolina red zone. A questionable facemask penalty on Austin Hooper offset some positive yards gained but New England took advantage of a Carolina tripping penalty penalty, taking TreVeyon Henderson in for the touchdown to put New England up 6-0.
Panthers had another opportunity to score before halftime but failed due to a poor pass by Cam Newton. Young attempted a scramble but was tackled at the line of scrimmage by Sam Martin who recovered it for New England punting purposes.
New England responded quickly, as Drake Maye led their offense in piling up significant yardage on the ground. A quick pass to Stefon Diggs put New England inside the red zone again; following an Austin Hooper tripping penalty that netted them 15 yards back, Maye hit Hunter Henry for 21 yards to bring New England closer than five-yard line.
On the next play, Rhamondre Stevenson received a handoff that set up 5th and goal from two yards out. Unfortunately, due to a facemask penalty on Panthers players earlier, some positive yards of Patriots had already been nullified; but still managed to convert their two-point conversion attempt and enter halftime leading 28-6.
Second half was all New England as Marcus Jones scored on an 87-yard punt return touchdown to give New England their largest halftime margin of victory at home since Week 17 2021 (42-13). It marked his second punt return touchdown as well as equaling team record for special teams touchdowns scored in one game (four) Carolina Panthers Vs New England Patriots Match Player Stats.
