Tests

Australia men’s cricket team has taken an early advantage in the series between Bangladesh national cricket team and Australia men’s cricket team in terms of winning matches across all formats – Test, ODI and T20Is. Australia won 16 out of 16 total matches played between these teams between Tests, ODIs and T20Is played between these sides.

On April 1st 2014, Australia and Bangladesh met in their inaugural test match at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Australia restricted Bangladeshi batsmen to just 153 runs but were still able to easily chase down their target with help from David Warner’s 71 and 48 runs respectively.

After this series of two tests hosted by Australia in July and August, which they won easily by two tests each, led by Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, and Darren Lehmann ensuring victory with ease for their side.

2023 ICC T20 World Cup: On 5 May 2023, the eleventh match took place at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados and was won by Australia with an unprecedented margin of 27 runs, and Michael Hussey earned Player of the Match honors thanks to an unbeaten 47 run innings performance he produced as part of their victory.

This was the inaugural T20 match between these teams in Bangladesh, and also marked the first time Bangla Tigers scored over 400 runs in an innings. Australian bowlers restricted Bangladesh batsmen to 381 runs before successfully chasing down their target thanks to David Warner and Usman Khawaja’s outstanding performances at bat.

Nathan Lyon was also instrumental in Australia’s win, taking five wickets for 40 runs in only four overs – this marked a phenomenal performance by their side as it marked the second highest T20 international score ever and chase record beaten. Prior to this match-up, Sri Lanka held this mark in 2007 ICC T20 World Cup; Australia beat this by setting their own total of 334 runs during an innings in this match-up.

ODIs

In 2008, Bangladesh and Australia teams engaged in three One Day International (ODI) matches. Australia easily won all three matches; led by Michael Clarke for Australia while Mohammad Ashraful captained Bangladesh’s Bengal Tigers side.

These matches took place during southern Australian winter; low continental-like pitches made it difficult for Bangladesh to score more than 125 runs each innings; although their ranks did include notable players like Tapash Baisya and Habibul Bashar who proved invaluable players on these low scoring pitches.

The Australians won the opening Test match by an innings and 132 runs, holding Bangladesh to only 129 runs in both innings – major contributions coming from Darren Lehmann (177 runs) and Steve Waugh (156) while Stuart MacGill claimed two fifers for Australia.

The second Test took place at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Dhaka and saw Australia win by an innings and 162 runs thanks to an outstanding second innings performance from their side led by Darren Lehmann and Steve Waugh with Glenn McGrath taking 3 wickets while Brett Lee also contributing significantly with significant contributions from himself and Steve Waugh respectively.

On 4 November 2021 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, Australia defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets with 82 balls remaining, and Adam Zampa received Player of the Match honours. Australian bowlers dominated throughout, limiting Bangladesh to just 73 runs as Australia easily chased down their target in just over 6 overs.

T20Is

Bangladesh National Cricket Team and Australian Men’s cricket Team have met 11 times in T20Is since 2016, with Australia winning seven and Bangladesh four victories respectively. Over time, their competitive rivalry has intensified considerably; and is likely to continue for some time yet.

On 1 April 2014, Bangladesh and Australia met for their inaugural T20I match at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Dhaka. Batting first, Bangladesh amassed 306 runs with major contributions coming from Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto. However, Australia came back strongly with an excellent 107 run win.

In the second match of the series, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They limited Bangla Tigers batting to only 134 runs before bowling them out for just 37 runs – an Australian victory by 10 wickets; Glenn McGrath received Player of the Match honors.

On November 4th 2021, the third match in this series took place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat first, amassing 381 runs with significant contributions from David Warner(166 runs), Aaron Finch(53 runs) and Usman Khawaja(89 runs).

Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten century wasn’t enough for Bangladeshi side Mushfiqur Rahim et al to avoid defeat in run chase. Australian won their match by 48 runs and Adam Zampa received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding bowling performance. Australia then proceeded to dominate 3-0 during this ICC World Cup T20 series; both teams will meet again soon for another T20 encounter.
