Australia vs West Indies
Australia’s batsmen have been in impressive form of late, which was evident in Adelaide as they posted 317-6 and then coasted to victory by an innings and 37 runs. It marked Windies’ lowest total at home since they were all out for 47 against New Zealand back in 1955.
West Indies have yet to record an overseas series win against one of the top eight teams; their most recent was against South Africa in 2009/2009. But they can take heart in having won 10 out of 11 home matches against Australia at Sabina Park.
Josh Inglis smashed an unbeaten 78 not out in Kingston to guide Australia to an eight-wicket win and take an early 2-0 lead in their five-match T20I series.
With ramps, reverse sweeps and pulls all in his arsenal of batsmen at his disposal he made this performance standout and earned himself player-of-the-match honors in an amazing display that kept them ahead on day two.
Australia and Windies experienced differing fortunes on the field on Thursday evening, with Australia dropping three catches and the Windies taking six chances with various degrees of difficulty.
Captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to bowl first; Kevlon Anderson and Shamar Joseph both made their Test debuts as Kevlon Anderson made two deliveries of variable difficulty while Kevlon Anderson fell leg before to Zampa for one wicket each – but batsmen struggled, with Shimron Hetmyer and Stephen Parry both edges to slips before Zampa took one too early lbw dismissals to Zampa’s bowling.
Cooper Connolly bowled an off-spinner to Rovman Powell on 4, while youngster Matt Kuhnemann missed an off-spinner for the second time this match.
Australia suffered further setback when pace bowler Matt Doggett sustained an injury; Nathan Abbott was called up as his replacement.
Windies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin and fast bowlers Jason Holder and Keemo Paul were outstanding performers despite their team’s defeat, with captain Jason Roy dismissed in the first over by Paul for an early duck.
On Saturday, Basseterre Warner Park will play host to the third and final T20I. Russell and Holder will both receive guards of honour prior to this contest, hoping that their achievements can add another chapter. Both players will have one last opportunity to increase their international caps before the 2025 World Cup qualifiers commence in November.
West Indies will travel to England and Ireland for white-ball fixtures before returning home to host Pakistan (six T20Is and three ODIs) and Australia (three ODIs and two Tests). 2026 promises an action-packed schedule, as they defend their crown at the Cricket World Cup while women compete at an ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier event.
