Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 1st ODI
Afghanistan bounced back after dropping their T20 series 3-0 by scoring an emphatic win against Bangladesh in their inaugural ODI. Thanks to Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan’s brilliant bowling performances in the first half, Bangladesh batted poorly despite captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tawhid Hridoy’s 78-run partnership and batted poorly throughout.
Both players were unable to capitalize on their promising starts, however, and quickly fell. Rashid Khan took Mehidy and Jaker Ali for wickets with leg spin deliveries; then in the 17th over took another wicket courtesy of Rahmat Shah’s leg spin; followed by late scores from Saif Hasan and Nurul Hasan that helped put Bangladesh over 221-9, an underwhelming total total for 50 overs.
Afghanistan responded quickly by striking three boundaries off Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz smacking Taskin Ahmed for a six. However, Gurbaz would eventually be dismissed in the 19th over with Tanzim Sakib taking him at midwicket for 53. Sediqullah Atal was then bowled by Tanzim for his duck a mere over later, playing an irresponsible hook shot which nestled into Tanzim’s safe hands at short midwicket.
Afghanistan were in command, however, with Mohammad Nabi striking two sixes off Sediqullah and four straight over long off to set up victory in the 48th over. Nabi then had an opportunity to seal it all with one last six over long on. And he did so spectacularly!
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI
After suffering through an uneven T20I series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh will look to rebound in the ODIs against them at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi this Saturday. Afghanistan won the opening ODI by five wickets to take an unassailable 1-0 lead; Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai took three wickets each; Afghanistan then chased down their target of 221 comfortably with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah both scoring half centuries.
Afghanistan will feel confident of taking control of this series by winning at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, known for being a favorite among spinners. Batters may score big here; just don’t play too recklessly and get out early!
Rahmanullah Gurbaz was instrumental in Afghanistan’s opening match win, thanks to his experienced batting under pressure. With so much ODI experience under his belt and having seen many pivotal moments unfold, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah will likely also play key roles.
Bangladesh’s batting was lackluster in their opening match and is an area of major concern going into this game. They need more batters to step up and make significant contributions – Najmul Hossain Shanto in particular needs to step up for them and make runs.
Taskin Ahmed has been an unexpected star since 2024 began, collecting 113 wickets in just 109 matches. A formidable wicket-taker, Taskin will look to add to his total in this match against Bangladesh batting lineup that needs time to find its form quickly in order to remain competitive.
Mohammad Naim and Tanzim Hasan Sakib should provide good support alongside him while remaining seamers such as Mohammad Naim and Tanzim Hasan Sakib may help provide more wickets. Overall though, Bangladesh are yet to prove themselves against these bowling lineups whereas Taskin Ahmed stands out amongst them all as their captain must quickly find form quickly so as not lose momentum when playing against Bangladesh’s bowlers!
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 4th ODI
Afghanistan will aim to close out their 3-match ODI series with a win in Abu Dhabi’s final match. They defeated Bangladesh 1-0 in Sharjah to take an early 1-0 advantage and should feel confident of adding on with another win here.
They boast enough spinners suitable for this type of surface while possessing excellent batsmen like Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan who can both play big innings, while their openers have shown much promise throughout.
Gaddafi Stadium features a slow pitch that should give both pacers and spinners equal opportunities to excel. Teams that elect to bat first have won 36 out of 55 ODIs played here since 2000; both sides will likely look for opportunities to post an impressive total here.
Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Shakib will lead the host’s bowling attack for this tour, following his excellent showing in T20Is. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan form an extensive batting lineup; Rahmanullah Gurbaz in particular has struggled to capitalize on good starts into big scores so will hope for better luck here.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has shown some solid batting form, yet they require more from Nurul Hasan and Jaker Ali in order to remain relevant in ODIs. Najmul Hossain Shanto had some difficulty in the T20I leg of this tour but will hope that his returns improve during ODIs.
Saif Hasan and wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan provided steady runs at lower orders; all that’s lacking are experienced leaders that can anchor an innings’ innings – or at least someone with leadership abilities!
