Toss

The toss is an integral factor in deciding the outcome of any match, as losing it drastically decreases a team’s chance of victory.

Their opponents could then exploit an advantageous situation by bowling first; but some teams elect to defer their toss regardless of their chances; this strategy could increase their odds.

The Titans have excelled this season, winning four of six games and boasting an outstanding head-to-head record against GT than any other side in the competition.

Their first innings total has also been the highest among any IPL side defending total, and captain Shubman Gill is only one run shy of reaching 2,500 IPL runs for his side and boasting the best strike rate among any IPL player this season.

Even with their loss in the qualifier match, the Titans still have a shot at making it to the playoffs if they win three more matches; to do this they must defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Eliminator match held on May 22 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Since their previous season’s debut they have seen significant changes – such as releasing key players and welcoming in new recruits.

Batting order

The batting order of both teams plays an essential role in their chances of victory. When wicket conditions become difficult for batting, teams with strong batting lines often find success more easily than their counterparts with weaker ones.

A powerful top order can also assist a team to build a total in its first innings; middle order batsmen also must work to maintain an acceptable run rate while selecting strategic shots to gain advantage over rival teams.

The Gujarat Titans performed well in their opening innings at Ekana Cricket Stadium, featuring Mitchell Marsh’s maiden IPL hundred and Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 56 off 37 balls to reach 235 for 2; unfortunately due to lack of lower-order collapse they fell three wickets short of their target score.

LSG achieved its target effectively through solid middle-order batting. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan combined for an unbroken partnership of 81 runs;

Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan added extra spark with their hitting, scoring an astonishing 86 runs off 40 balls for the fourth wicket.

Gujarat Titans bowlers struggled to match the scoring rate in the middle overs, particularly within the Powerplay. Nonetheless, they managed to reduce stress at later points of their innings with timely wickets from Ravi Bishnoi and Ayush Badoni who helped slow the run-rate significantly.

Even with their loss, the Titans remain competitive and could still reach the playoffs if they can win their remaining two matches to finish in the top two in league stage.

Unfortunately, legspinner Digvesh Rathi is serving an one-match suspension due to violating IPL code of conduct and may miss these crucial contests.

Both teams have already proved they can win big games at home this season, and this matchup between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants should be no different.

Played on Saturday April 12 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 12, hosts will look to extend their unbeaten season against Titans with another victory – potentially giving themselves a four-point cushion at the top of their respective tables.

Bowling attack

A team’s bowling attack plays an integral part of its performance. Understanding its strength allows bettors to evaluate their chances of victory; bowling averages, economy rates and wicket-taking abilities provide insight into a bowling attack’s ability to limit opposing teams’ runs while also showing whether an acceptable rate of conceding runs can be maintained by its performance.

RCB’s bowling was below Blast standards, with pacers other than Ishant Sharma failing to inspire confidence while spinners Karn Sharma and Mayank Dagar proved ineffective.

Their only saving grace came in Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan who shared an extraordinary 86-run partnership off just 40 balls!

LSG bowlers were on form and they posted an impressive total of 235 for 2. After which came the test: although LSG lost both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan early, Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan saw through to deep into powerplay batting before Kagiso Rabada ensured GT’s innings ended with a consolation win thanks to him having removed Rutherford in 16 overs before having Aiden Markram caught at point for one final wicket to clinching it all off in 17 overs!

Match prediction

Gujarat Titans will face Lucknow Super Giants at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium at 2:00 pm on May 22. Toss will determine who wins; whoever wins it will bat first. Weather forecast calls for sunny conditions with maximum temperature 41 degrees Celsius and 25% chance of rainfall during match play.

Gujarat Titans won their last league match against Delhi Capitals by 10 wickets and are hoping to keep this winning momentum going in their remaining two matches.

Although they should qualify for playoffs, Gujarat Titans would prefer finishing amongst the top two and increase their chance of reaching the final. They will look to use their strengths against LSG who have struggled throughout this tournament.

Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler will lead the GT attack, while Sherfane Rutherford and Rahul Tewatia will provide support from their middle order positions. Both players have performed admirably throughout the season so far; both will look to maintain this form.

Bowling remains in good shape for the remainder of this season: Washington Sundar is just three wickets away from becoming the youngest IPL bowler ever while Ishant Sharma has amassed 150 wickets so far in this format.

LSG have experienced difficulties throughout the tournament and currently sit seventh on the points table. They have only won five out of their 12 matches this year and need to win their remaining two games to qualify for playoffs.

LSG retained key players such as Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bisnoi while releasing Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis; hoping that victory over Titans can turn around an underwhelming year and ensure it ends on an upbeat note.
