RCB: Smriti Mandhana (c), Richa Ghosh, Sayali Satghare (replacement for Ellyse Perry), Shreyanka Patil, Georgia Voll, Nadine de Klerk

The Women’s Premier League has taken an impressive leap forward, not only in terms of cricket quality but also with regards to momentum and belief that has come with it.

Like the Indian Premier League, it now provides players a genuine platform where their potential can become tangible rewards for themselves and the game at large.

Smriti Mandhana led from the front, scoring 98 off 66 balls to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to victory. Georgia Voll provided excellent support, taking on her opponents with calm authority while simultaneously attacking with full force against Delhi even after Marizanne Kapp had left early in their chase.

Even though Delhi lost Marizanne Kapp early on in their chase attempt, Mandhana and Voll ensured they remained in control throughout.

With Ellyse Perry out, Royal Cape Blues (RCB) must find another domestic batter to join Gautami Naik and Dayalan Hemalatha as Voll’s partners at number three. Gautami Naik and Hemalatha may both provide options, though neither have proven themselves over time in this format.

Grace Harris and Nadine de Klerk must improve their bowling performances if RCB are to challenge for one of four playoff spots – they were both expensive purchases in 2024 auction but haven’t quite lived up to their billing so far.

DC: Jemimah Rodrigues (c), Shafali Verma, Marzianne Kapp, Niki Prasad, Laura Wolvaardt, Chinelle Henry, Shree Charani, Sneh Rana

Delhi Capitals have finally recovered from a slow start and appear poised for top four contention. After defeating Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in consecutive encounters, Delhi have shown they possess what it takes to be top four sides – yet powerplay bowling remains their biggest Achilles heel if they want to remain consistent chasers.

Delhi Capitals have appointed Pragati Singh and Eddla Srujana as replacements for Deeya Yadav and Mamatha Madiwala for the remainder of this tournament, in order to bolster their batting as well as add depth to their bowling attack.

Delhi have enjoyed success against RCB so far this season, yet have struggled to convert their superiority on the field into an easy victory on home turf. Now, they will look to change their luck at home by coming out strong against them this time.

Smriti Mandhana presents the coin to be flipped, and heads is drawn. RCB chooses to bat first.

RCB have lost three out of their first four matches under new captain Smriti Mandhana, yet have found a steady form under her leadership. Their top order, including Shreyanka Patil and Georgia Voll, have performed admirably while Nadine de Klerk and Sayali Satghare have delivered plenty of power through bowling and hitting.

An upset against Delhi would do wonders for their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs, yet they must up their game in order to defeat an in-form Capitals side led by Nandini Sharma – their bowler currently leading wicket charts with 13 scalps and an average of 19.25.

Delhi’s batting has been somewhat inconsistent this season, yet they showed signs of improvement against Mumbai Indians in their previous game.

Players like Shafali Verma, Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt are contributing crucial runs, but more is required from their lower order in order to be consistent when chasing. Niki Prasad and Chinelle Henry must work on improving their catching standards to create match-winning partnerships between themselves if possible.

Alana King

Alana King made up for her recent lack of bat performance by producing an outstanding bowling performance against table-topper RCB in Indore. The leg spinner generated significant turn on a pitch which enabled her to pick up two key wickets: Sune Luus and Marzianne Kapp.

DC continued their winning form and maintained second spot, while RCB suffered their first loss and fell to fourth. King is in consideration for Australia’s Ashes squad and this win solidified her chances.

Jemimah Rodrigues took the decision to bowl after winning the toss, as she believed that this pitch would facilitate more ball movement than other pitches in this tournament.

Additionally, Chinelle Henry replaced Lucy Hamilton while Minnu Mani came in to replace injured Deeya Yadav. RCB opener Smriti Mandhana scored quickly but the rest of her team struggled in scoring runs.
