Tests

New Zealand are hoping to extend their impressive record against Pakistan in Test matches. Over 58 test matches between these teams, New Zealand have won 12 times – although their away form has hindered them recently; 2017 brought an encouraging win against Ireland and Bangladesh but a disappointing Champions Trophy loss led to Daniel Vettori leaving his role as Test captain, along with new leadership coming in such as Brendon McCullum as team leader as well as several players such as Kane Williamson, Corey Anderson Trent Boult Jimmy Neesham joining his ranks.

New Zealand have made remarkable gains after an inauspicious start to 2019. They defeated Sri Lanka across formats and tied India during their home season before winning an away test series against Pakistan for 49 years, propelling their ranking up into third position globally.

New Zealand have taken an early 2-0 lead against Pakistan in their T20 series after winning both games, but Pakistani hope remain alive by winning their third match despite this deficit. Both batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were dropped for this game, providing Hasan Nawaz with an opportunity to prove himself against more experienced opposition – with him recording two ducks both times but making enough impression for a spot in their fourth match team!

Eden Park in Auckland will host the fourth Test between these sides, who are tied on points and looking forward to this match as a crucial one in deciding who qualifies for the semi-finals of this tournament. New Zealand need a win to secure their semi-final position; rain has put an end to proceedings however. South Africa have already qualified and would not catch New Zealand on points even if they win their remaining two matches; Pakistan hosts this T20I for the first time – their last T20 against New Zealand was back in 2010, which Pakistan won by seven wickets!

ODIs

New Zealand are looking for their first win against Pakistan in ODIs since losing the last four matches between them in this important series, having lost seven out of 12 tests played between them while winning only two of six ODIs against New Zealand over recent years.

This event can provide New Zealand with an opportunity to improve its world rankings for both formats of play – in Test series the Kiwis boasted an outstanding 7-7 Test record while Pakistan have only managed two victories against them recently in ODI matches.

This bilateral series forms part of the International Cricket Council’s Future Cricket Tour Program and will take place from December to January.

Both Pakistan and New Zealand teams will each play three ODIs during this bilateral series, in addition to two T20Is which has been confirmed by both parties involved.

Tom Latham leads New Zealand into battle as captain, alongside Tom Blundell, Chad Bowes, Matt Henry, Ben Lister, Adam Milne, Matt McConchie (Colin & Matt), Ish Sodhi & Jimmy Neesham as batsmen.

Bowlers Will O’Rourke (Pace), Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith lead their bowling attack whereas all-rounder Will Young provides support.

Spinner Michael Bracewell from Auckland Aces leg-spinner Adi Ashok has also been included whereas skipper Mitchell Santner and wicketkeeper Kane Williamson have both ruled themselves out due to IPL commitments; The Kiwis currently lead this ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 by an unasssailable lead of three wins 3-0 over India at present!

T20Is

Pakistan have made their final bid against New Zealand in this T20I series and hope for an emphatic comeback after losing their opening two games against them.

While New Zealand have taken an impressive 2-0 advantage, Pakistan have proven they can be formidable adversaries; currently ranked sixth globally and one that could prove challenging opponents to beat.

These teams have met 49 times in T20 competition, with Pakistan winning 24 and two games ending as draws. Most recently they squared off in a World T20 semi-final back in 2007, boasting an excellent track record in shorter formats.

Pakistan will try to retain the same squad that won their third match of their series against New Zealand at Christchurch on Thursday, excluding injured duo Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan due to injury.

They have received a boost with Zak Foulkes returning from injury; he missed the Champions Trophy final due to it but will replace Matt Henry for remaining two matches.

New Zealand will benefit from Ish Sodhi’s return, who will play all five matches after sitting out the Champions Trophy win in Dubai due to injury.

He will be joined in their bowling attack by Ben Sears who has returned after suffering a hamstring tear there.

Matt Henry will play a pivotal role for New Zealand again during their Champions Trophy final clash, alongside Colin de Grandhomme and Daryl Mitchell.

These all-rounders were outstanding during New Zealand’s run to glory, with de Grandhomme scoring an unbeaten century in their semi-final match and Mitchell taking seven wickets as they completed an undefeated campaign in all tournaments they entered.

Michael Bracewell will lead New Zealand for the remainder of their T20I series against India, standing in for Mitch Santner who cannot travel due to domestic obligations.

Michael was instrumental in leading his side all the way to Dubai final and will take great pleasure leading their side home on home ground.
