Gujarat Titans Vs Mumbai Indians Match Scorecard
Gujarat Titans (GT), having finished third in the League Stage, face Mumbai Indians (MI) in an Eliminator at New Chandigarh on Friday afternoon, as highlighted in the Gujarat Titans Vs Mumbai Indians Match Scorecard. The victor will move on to Qualifier 2, while the loser will be eliminated from contention.
Batting power should dominate this contest, with GT boasting two of the three top run scorers – Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. However, MI has more playoff experience due to a stellar performance by Prasidh Krishna and their Purple Cap race victory.

Batting
Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are engaged in an epic fight in the middle. Whoever wins this matchup will secure themselves top position on the table; both teams aim to clinch it and seize control of its golden boot trophy.
All three teams are currently batting under Duckworth-Lewis-Stern conditions, and currently stand at 107-2 after 14 overs with Jos Buttler caught behind for 30 by Tilak Varma while Shubman Gill is unbeaten on 35 after being dropped twice during her innings, once on ball two and again on 15.
Hardik Pandya has turned the momentum back with two wickets in an 11-ball over. Sai Kishore also took one wicket; these players joined by Ishant Sharma and a leg spinner have all claimed wickets as neither team has scored any sixes yet.
Bowling
GT won the toss and elected to bowl first, with their seam attack creating early seam movement – Mohammed Siraj had Ryan Rickleton caught at short cover off their second delivery, and Arshad Khan troubled Rohit Sharma before finally dismissing him for seven off eight balls.
MI’s striking depth was the key differentiator in this matchup; they struck 17 sixes – an unprecedented total in any IPL Eliminator matchup – thanks to Jonny Bairstow and Rohit Sharma’s unbroken partnership of 84 from 49 balls that opened MI up.
As they remained consistent even after both batsmen fell within eight overs – Bairstow for 27 off 16 balls, and then Rohit with an 81-ball innings that included three consecutive sixes off Gerald Coetzee – they ensured MI’s run rate remained high despite Rahul Tewatia and Hardik Pandya taking away two key batsmen; when their other frontline bats were lost during 15 overs, MI relied on their lower order players to keep going – to keep pace.
GT should have found things easier against MI, yet were made to work hard by their batsmen and let down themselves with poor fielding – Will Jacks being dropped twice on 0 and 29 and Suryakumar Yadav on 10.
MI took full advantage of the dew factor to win with only 48 balls needed for their target of 99 off 48 deliveries, using smart bowling from their pace men.
Bumrah was exceptional at returning and firing the ball down to pick off wickets; in particular he sent Washi flying off an underarm full-tosses for four before cramping Suryakumar with an inside-out shot for yet another boundary in an 11th over.
GT batsmen maintained an advantageous batting position during the rain breaks, but struggled in the final stages, only reaching their target with four balls to spare and failing to progress further. Thus MI have established an unassailable lead while GT remain bottom of their respective tables.
Off-spinners
Gujarat and Mumbai have met seven times in the Indian Premier League, with Gujarat emerging victorious five times. Both sides have seen differing fortunes this season:
Titans’ defeat pushed them further down the table while Mumbai has made remarkable strides up it and taken sixth spot overall.
Both sides will look to put recent defeats behind them when they meet for an Eliminator tie at Wankhede Stadium on Friday.
At Wankhede Stadium this season, Mumbai Indians pulled off a thrilling three-wicket win thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s stellar form at the top of their order and contributions from lower down – helping MI recover from mid-innings slump and secure their first win since five games played this season.
Shubman Gill and his side will look to build on their success against the Titans, but must remain wary of R Sai Kishore’s spinners as R Sai has taken six wickets at both matches he has featured in. R Sai will present an enormous challenge to any visiting side attempting to defeat them.
MI’s start to the match has been nothing short of eventful as they reach 66 for 1 in the powerplay – their highest total so far! Rohit hit two sixes off Rashid for an unforgettable start before flicking Coetzee over long-off effortlessly for another six. Tilak Varma joined in, sending Rashid through and over long-off for yet another six!
Mumbai have made one change in their bowling lineup by adding Raj Angad Bawa as an all-round seam bowler in place of Deepak Chahar due to an injury.
They have also recruited Sherfane Rutherford and Richard Gleeson as additional batsmen; both players possessing previous IPL experience having played with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), they will add depth behind Rohit Sharma as well as Hardik Pandya/Naman Dhir.
IPL 2025 Eliminator: Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians
Winner of IPL Eliminator Game and will move on to IPL Final; while Loser will be knocked out. These Eliminators games will feature teams that finished third and fourth on IPL league table facing off at neutral locations in order to determine who goes forward into IPL Final game.
After an impressive run for most of the season, Gujarat faltered in the final stages with two shocking defeats against Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants; losing both matches by an 83-run margin each.
Their lack of momentum dropped them from second place down to third and would require winning an Eliminator match in order to reach playoffs while Mumbai were assured a spot regardless of their finish in fourth.
MI batted first, with Rohit Sharma making an excellent start, hitting three fours in his opening over. However, soon into the innings Gujarat lost several key players due to injury; including Suryakumar Yadav (who has been in fine form this season) being hit on the ankle and missing out for the rest of the season as well as Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir both having difficulty finding form.
But the real story was the bowling, led admirably by captain Jasprit Bumrah. His fifth over was worthy of consideration as ball of the match – an angled late delivery hit Shubman Gill lbw before taking out Washington Sundar, Mohmad Arshad Khan, and Sherfane Rutherford with successive overs.
Kushal Mendis, who made his debut after replacing injured Sherfane Rutherford in the side, made an immediate impact as well, striking two sixes during a brief innings and also contributing effectively towards MI’s 228-6 score. Richard Gleeson and Raj Angad Bawa also contributed immensely towards MI’s innings total of 227-8.
Day after being bowled out for just 101, Punjab were bowled out in just 10 overs at Mullanpur by RCB. With an even bounce and some seam movement on this pitch, teams that batted first had come out on top all three times at this ground this season; therefore it seems likely that their strategy won’t change this time around either.
