ODIs
An ODI (International Cricket Council One-Day International) is a form of cricket match played under standard one-day rules and, since their debut in 1971, Pakistan and South Africa have faced off 87 times with both nations winning 32 times, with 34 victories for South Africa against 32 victories from Pakistan.
Pakistan will play three ODIs at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore against South Africa before travelling to England for three ODIs and two T20Is before competing at 2025 World Cup before embarking on their Future Tours Programme tour; these series will serve as their only ODI series this year before heading overseas for 2025 World Cup tournament participation – only 3 of these series will have taken place this year against South Africa!
T20Is
South Africa and Pakistan, after finishing runners-up at both of the last ICC T20 World Cups, will look to revive their form when they meet for three T20Is.
Both sides have faced each other 24 times before with both teams holding even overall records with 12 victories each; both are currently struggling, with South Africa dropping its last three bilateral T20I series while Pakistan have lost four games of this format in succession.
Heinrich Klaasen will lead South Africa without Aiden Markram while Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi return as regulars while fast bowler Anrich Nortje and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi will all join Pakistani ranks.
Al Jazeera will provide live coverage from every T20I stadium with commentary in English and Urdu.
Tests
Pakistan was formed following the partition of India and subsequent formation of Pakistan in 1947, and Test cricket first made its debut there in 1952.
Since then, Pakistan has established itself as one of the most passionate and fiercely competitive sides on the international scene; winning one Cricket World Cup, three T20 World Cups and the Champions Trophy while finishing as runners up in several tournaments including ICC Test Championship.
Pakistan’s cricket team was widely accused of match-fixing in 2010, prompting widespread accusations and scandal. Since then, however, Pakistan has attempted to rebuild their image as legitimate and exciting cricket team; helped by being pitted against archrival India so often and their matches always producing plenty of drama and entertainment.
Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Shan Masood formed an unbroken 205-run partnership at Newlands to keep their side in contention after they were forced to follow on after they had to follow on after they were forced to follow on, but were both eventually dismissed by Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch quickly after. Pakistan collapsed from there to 261-9 in two days’ play.
Pakistan remains one of the most captivating teams to follow, but their results can often be unpredictable. Comprised of talented individuals without much structure, Pakistan can provide exciting cricket one day and underwhelm on another; yet still remains fascinating as an opponent and often ranks amongst the top 10 in Tests.
