Punjab Kings: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Priyansh Arya (wk), Shashank Singh (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis

Priyansh Arya, making his debut for PBKS, has already hit two boundaries off Mohammed Siraj and looks in good form to add runs to his innings. Shreyas Iyer is currently at bat for PBKS as captain and looking to add runs.

Iyer, the IPL’s highest run-scorer this season, will look to continue his fine run against Gujarat Titans. Last time out against Kolkata Knight Riders he scored 80 off just 76 balls – his strike rate of 161 being one of the best in the league.

PBKS is now in pursuit of 244 points to win the game and Iyer has been joined at the crease by youngster Priyansh Arya who hopes to form an effective partnership.

Arya attracted the notice of Indian Premier League (IPL) scouts after impressing during his performance in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament for Delhi, ending as its top run-scorer.

Although he went unpurchased at auction that year, that only further fuelled his desire to play on a bigger stage; his efforts earned him a contract from Punjab Kings ahead of the 2025 season.

So far, the first over of this match is complete and has proven an exciting spectacle so far. No team has managed to break through yet and any outcome at this stage remains possible.

Kagiso Rabada gives GT their first breakthrough of the match as he dismisses Prabhsimran Singh for five. A short ball devoid of room forced Prabhsimran into cutting straight down to third man where Arshad Khan took an easy catch.

Priyansh Arya has stolen the show with his astonishing batting skills. In one over from Arshad Khan he hit three boundaries and sixes as GT bowler leaked 21 runs. So far in this match Priyansh has scored an amazing 68 off just 27 balls! What an outstanding debutant performance.

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill (captain), Jos Buttler (wk), Sai Sudharsan (wk), Glenn Phillips, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj

Gujarat Titans need one win to stay alive in the playoff race and are boasting one of the strongest batting lineups in the league with Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan all performing admirably. Additionally they boast an effective fast bowling attack led by Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj – two names to watch out for this season!

GT’s opening pair have provided a sterling performance so far this IPL, accelerating towards their goal and looking assured at the crease. Debutante Priyansh Arya has shown promise as well, hitting two boundaries already and looking assured at bat. Both look to build an effective opening stand which will be key to their side’s success.

Priyansh Arya gets out for an unbeaten 47 on his IPL debut. While trying to hit Rashid Khan’s spin for a big shot, the ball hit back of his bat instead and went high up into the air where Arshad Khan took an easy catch – second wicket gone for PBKS!

The captain is gradually pulling his team back into contention with timely runs. He strikes two maximums off Sai Kishore’s over as he nears half century; Glenn Maxwell also strikes a boundary to give momentum back to their team.

But the bowler strikes again when he dismisses Marcus Stoinis for 20. Tossed wide outside off, Stoinis attempted a reverse-sweep shot but mistimed it; this caused an on-field umpire to signal “LBW out”.

The Gujarat Titans have made some changes, yet are still favorites for this match. Their batting lineup consists of Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia as they welcome Sherfane Rutherford as a replacement batsman and Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee and Mohammed Siraj have joined their ranks bolstering their fast bowling department – the new-look Gujarat Titans are definitely one to keep an eye out for.

What to Expect

With both teams boasting top-tier players and their head-to-head record being even, this match promises to be exciting. Both sides hope to gain early momentum in the tournament; therefore, this battle could prove decisive.

Punjab Kings have much to prove this season after finishing fourth last time out. They’ve brought in experienced campaigners such as Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Jos Buttler as support players; new pacers Lockie Ferguson and Yuzvendra Chahal will add pace while Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar will add experience to their bowling attack.

Gujarat Titans will also look to start off on the right note this season after suffering defeat in all five previous meetings with Punjab.

After keeping Shubman Gill as captain and adding Jos Buttler to their batting lineup, Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips and Rahul Tewatia to their bench strength. Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj and Gerald Coetzee have also been added to bolster their fast bowling department – two crucial additions given they currently share one fast-bowling department between them!

Narendra Modi Stadium’s pitch is well-known to favour batters, with teams averaging an impressive average score of 184 in their last 10 matches here. However, toss could play an essential part in winning seven of eight matches chased here; weather forecast indicates clear conditions with an anticipated temperature of 37 degrees Celsius that could encourage aggressive batting from both sides.
