The Indian men’s cricket team suffered a three-wicket defeat to South Africa in the second T20 series match at St George’s Park in Gqebera on Sunday, drawing level in their four-match T20 series with South Africa after they secured an emphatic 61 run win led by Sanju Samson’s century on Friday. India struggled in this second encounter as wickets kept falling at regular intervals throughout.
India posted an unbeaten total of 124/6 in their 20 overs after an initial cautious start, led by Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 39 off 45 balls. Unfortunately for India though, their inability to accelerate began to cost them as Axar Patel was run out from a deflection from a straight drive, while Rinku Singh fell off short ball to the boundary in 13 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy came into bat to turn things around by castleing South African opener Aiden Markram with one delivery before striking an important blow with his fifth over to leave them on 87/6 in 16 overs.
South Africa started their chase strongly, but lost wickets at regular intervals at the other end. Axel Scholtz fell lbw off Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling before captain David Miller was dismissed soon afterwards to leave them on 86/6.
