First innings
India and England have enjoyed a rich rivalry in cricket for a long time, playing numerous Tests, ODIs, and T20s against each other over time. Each match brings excitement and drama; India and England fans have also witnessed many unforgettable moments along their history; making this encounter between these teams another thrilling contest to enjoy!
India amassed 247 runs in their opening innings led by Abhishek Sharma’s superb display. The youngster scored 135 runs off 54 balls, hitting 14 fours and 8 sixes to give his side an excellent start in this matchup.
But England fought back with some strong lower order batting that saw their last three wickets contribute an invaluable 116 runs to their total, ensuring India would not have such an overwhelming lead going into their second innings.
Ben Stokes chose Jofra Archer at the start of Day 2, likely due to his success against left-handed batsman. And Archer certainly delivered, dismissing Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar quickly, dismantling India’s middle order in spectacular fashion.
However, KL Rahul held firm at the other end and kept India’s innings intact with determination. Although eventually dismissed in his maiden Test century at the final over of session 6, he managed to keep India’s deficit under 85 runs.
England tried valiantly in their second innings to equalize, but were ultimately unsuccessful in doing so. Although they formed an impressive partnership, it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat. Looking ahead, England will hope to improve their batting in their next match and give themselves more of a chance of victory.
Early this morning, England won the toss and chose to bat, only to lose five wickets for just 41 runs in their opening inning largely thanks to Mohammad Shami and Abhishek Sharma’s exceptional bowling; their combined efforts reduced England to 97 all out within 13.5 overs.
Second innings
The fourth Test between England and India is an intense contest with high stakes: victory for India will give them a 2-1 series lead, yet wickets have proven difficult to come by with Shubman Gill and KL Rahul joining forces for an unbroken partnership of 174 runs despite some difficult Indian bowling, helping their side reach 247 runs before India could secure another win.
Zak Crawley’s fluency of 64 was key in setting off India’s pace duo of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj to take six wickets post lunch session and turn the match around.
England have made a slow start, finding it hard to deal with even the slickest deliveries, yet have made progress and have reached 132/1 in the first half of the final session.
England require a swift recovery if they are to avoid suffering an embarrassing defeat. With Chris Woakes sidelined and failing to take advantage of three catching opportunities, KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan quickly fell apart with KL Rahul being dismissed cheaply as KL Rahul fell cheaply as well as Joe Root and Krishna having an intense exchange which highlighted this session.
India finally struck after a long run without wickets falling, when an India bowler used an off-break that angled both in and outside off and caught Pope flat-footed at his crease, as it nipped away from Pope. England lost four more wickets quickly with Rory Burns, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook and Joe Root all falling cheaply; though Brook and Root did provide some resistance; their hosts trailed by 312 runs with five wickets remaining on Day 4.
By nightfall on Day 4, their hosts reached 174/2 with five wickets remaining with five to make up. The hosts reached 174/2 with five wickets remaining against India; before stumps time on Day 4, trailing by 312 runs with five wickets remaining to play off Day 4.

Third innings
After India faltered on Day 4, England quickly took control in the early innings after lunch with two wickets within six overs from Jofra Archer to take out Rishabh Pant (9), before Ben Stokes took an amazing return catch to dismiss Washington Sundar (0) and Brydon Carse struck with his third ball claiming Nitish Reddy (13) for England to secure an incredible win at Lord’s.
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja made an admirable effort after an inauspicious start, but India were still 135 runs behind at stumps, needing another 141 runs for victory. Rahul and Jadeja shared an uncharacteristically careless drive before KL Rahul edged one straight to Stokes at slip; that allowed Jos Buttler to seize control but Rahul misfielding gave England an early edge by run-outing Buttler at midwicket before running him out by Rahul at midwicket gave England an early advantage before Rahul ran him out shortly thereafter to hand India narrow victory.
Buttler secured an easy seven-wicket victory, hitting nine fours and one six as he passed 200 for the first time in an international match. Soon afterwards, Joe Root created history by scoring an outstanding double century against India – becoming first English batsman since Fred Trueman in 1952 to do so!

Bumrah attempts to hit big with a short ball but mistimes it and gets adjudged lbw on review. When Bumrah mishits again, his delivery loops towards mid-on where substitute Sam Cook makes no error in taking an easy catch to keep the match tight as the final session starts.
Final innings
India prevailed by six runs in the final Test at Edgbaston after eight attempts, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s three wicket haul on the final morning – England were bowled out for 387 and Ben Stokes was in superb form as well, taking four wickets himself.
At 277/3, England looked on course to claim victory when in control. But they succumbed to an unprecedented series of collapses as seven wickets fell within nine overs from 240/2 to 281/4. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar came together brilliantly to rebuild England’s innings with a partnership of 97 that saved their innings from being completely lost.
After an initially slow start, both players quickly found their rhythm. Jadeja accelerated with two consecutive boundaries to complete his half century off 56 balls; Sundar followed shortly thereafter by reaching his maiden Test century after just 62 deliveries and three more boundaries.
England’s lower order struggled as the ball darted around. Jos Buttler was caught at backward point before Darren Leaning edged to slip in the next over and Henriques was caught at slip soon afterwards; Brydon Carse and Jacob Bethell soon followed suit to seal England’s downfall.
But Jadeja and Sundar showed resilience by finishing their chase in just over an hour and a half with five balls left over, garnering applause from teammates who gathered around them with pride and happiness.
This match will go down as one of England’s greatest victories under Stokes’ captaincy, and India may well rue not taking their chances with bat and ball more effectively on an day where bat was the dominant force. Ravindra Jadeja and Sundar will no doubt feel disappointed not making centuries on such a day; nonetheless they can take great pride from having participated. Overall it was an exciting end to an epic series; hopefully The Oval will host another thrilling contest!
