QB Baker Mayfield

Washington had one final chance to take control of the game in its final minutes and drove downfield towards Terry McLaurin – Jayden Daniels found him for a 35-yard gain on play three. Unfortunately, Washington failed to convert on fourth down and missed an opportunity to send this game into overtime.

After receiving a punt from Tampa Bay, the Commanders began the second quarter with an aggressive drive towards the end zone. On 3rd and 10, they came within inches of crossing over on 3rd and 10, but their 2-point conversion failed when Daniels could not deliver the ball to Dyami Brown over his well-covered defender.

On Washington’s subsequent kickoff, they quickly advanced into Tampa Bay territory before encountering 4th and short at their own 23-yard line. Although Daniels was sacked upon the initial play, he found Mike Evans for an easy first down reception on 4th down play.

In the second half, the Commanders continued their momentum against Buccaneers defense and put pressure on their back line. Daniels hit McLaurin on a deep pass for 37-yard gain before finding Austin Eckler for another 20-yard reception to set up 2nd and goal at 3-yard line.

On the next play, Eckler caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to give the Commanders a 14-13 advantage with 1:34 remaining in the half. However, the Bucs responded immediately by scoring another touchdown to take back control.

As both teams’ rushing attacks have been extremely effective so far, but the Commanders run defense is beginning to show signs of fatigue – giving up an average 4.6 yards per carry compared to just 2.13 for the Bucs who have been more resilient in stopping runs.

Brian Robinson has struggled mightily since coming onto the scene for the Commanders, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry over four games. It will be interesting to see if his struggles continue against Tampa Bay’s No.4 run defense unit.

RB Mike Evans

The Commanders and Buccaneers battled to a scoreless draw during the first half, trading field goals and turnovers to end it. The second half began slowly. Washington’s initial drive ended up going three-and-out before an offside penalty gave Washington another set of downs; on 2nd down, Tampa Bay’s defense forced a fumble giving Washington possession inside Tampa Bay territory, leading them to pass to Terry McLaurin who scored from 5 yards out for their team.

Jayden Daniels doesn’t appear overwhelmed by making his playoff debut away from home – or under pressure. He remains composed under pressure and doesn’t capitulate when the opposing defense closes in on him, making the Commanders competitive even though their pass defense is poor. Daniels’ leadership has kept them alive.

Evans was the Commanders’ top receiver in the first half. He hauled in two receptions for 66 yards – including their only touchdown before halftime – on four targeted receptions that all went for clean receptions. Evans was clearly targeted by Tampa Bay defense Marshon Lattimore (former Saints cornerback).

In the third quarter, the Commanders offense struggled to find its stride. Following a missed fourth-down conversion attempt and 3rd and 20 at Tampa Bay’s 24-yard line, Zyon McCollum was penalized for holding on a third down play which extended their drive further.

On their subsequent drive, the Buccaneers attempted to counterattack. Unfortunately, Baker Mayfield made a crucial misstep which allowed Commanders defenders to sack and force a punt from him and force a punt instead.

On their opening possession of the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers found themselves back inside Washington’s 20-yard line and began moving the ball downfield towards field goal range, but were unable to kick one through.

Washington attempted to reach field goal range on its final drive via a fourth down play; however, Daniels was sacked by Calijah Kancey without any gain and Zane Gonzalez kicked a 25-yard field goal to seal their victory for the Commanders.

WR Terry McLaurin

Terry McLaurin stood out as Washington’s bright spot during the second quarter. On their third play of their drive, Terry made a catch that gained 20 yards before going on an extended 15-yard gain that propelled them deep into Tampa Bay territory before the drive stalled and was ultimately ended by a 3-and-out. Washington punted.

The Commanders took advantage of the short field by driving into Tampa Bay territory with two plays, but both failed. Baker Mayfield threw an interception that allowed Lavonte David to sack him in the end zone for a safety. Furthermore, on their next play Mayfield was sacked and lost possession at their 20-yard line – further worsening matters for their campaign.

Washington faced 4th and 2 at Buccaneers’ 10-yard line on their next drive, so Dan Quinn signaled to go for it on fourth down and did just that – Jayden Daniels completed an incompletion, but quickly passed to McLaurin for 5-yard touchdown – becoming 3-for-5 on fourth down attempts this game!

On Washington’s subsequent possession, Bucky Irving hit Dyami Brown for a 30-yard catch to move closer towards field goal range, only for him to be flagged for face mask on that play – giving Tampa Bay possession of the ball at Washington 23-yard line and Bucky Irving running for 6 yards before being tackled on 3rd down at Tampa Bay 24-yard line on their next drive.

After receiving the ball from a punt, Tampa Bay found themselves back with just 14 minutes remaining in the game and drove deep into their opponent’s red zone, only to fail on fourth down and turn over on downs instead.

On the opening play of Washington’s final drive, its defensive line disrupted a screen pass and made it more difficult for Tampa Bay to gain entry to their game-winning zone. Baker Mayfield then threw an incomplete pass which allowed Washington’s offense to run out the clock for victory.

TE Dyami Brown

The Commanders started off the scoring early with a 10-yard touchdown from Jayden Daniels to Dyami Brown in the first quarter. Tampa Bay led 17-6 by halftime before mounting an exciting comeback in the third quarter, as Bucky Irving scored on an 18-yard rush and Zane Gonzalez kicked a 52-yard field goal from out of bounds to give them their first lead of the matchup.

The Buccaneers led 20-16 late in the fourth quarter, but that wasn’t enough to secure victory against the Commanders this season. Luckily for them, though, this won’t be happening again any time soon.

After the game, Washington head coach Jon Kitna was full of praise for his team’s efforts. “This was one of our finest performances all season,” he stated. “We’ll continue playing hard and see what unfolds next.”

Washington’s final drive of the game saw Daniels connect with Brown on a 20-yard pass to the end zone, but Zion McCollum was called for holding, forcing 4th & goal at 1-yard line; unfortunately Washington was unable to convert on fourth down, prompting a punt from Washington.

Washington’s defense was much superior to that of Tampa Bay, yet they struggled to stop the running game throughout the game – an issue which wasn’t nearly as significant when they were passing instead of running the ball.

Though they lost, the Bucs were superior in many respects to the Commanders. Their rushing defense was superior and their passing yards per game allowed was less. Furthermore, their touchdown-to-interception ratio was far superior compared to Commanders.

To have any hope at making the playoffs, the Buccaneers need their stars to step up. Mike Evans and Terry McLaurin are already producing, while their defense must improve as well For fans and analysts tracking Washington Commanders Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Match Player Stats, this clash offered plenty of key takeaways—from Daniels’ resilience to McLaurin’s consistency and Baker Mayfield’s key blunders under pressure.
