SEC Championship Game
Georgia and Alabama will face off in an SEC Championship Game that should not disappoint, with Georgia likely earning their way into the College Football Playoff and Alabama most likely falling outside it.
According to latest CFP committee rankings, Georgia would take No. 3 while Alabama landed No. 10. Over their history these two have met 75 times; Georgia winning 26 times while Alabama taking 45.
This game will begin at 4 pm ET on Saturday, December 6 and be broadcast live by ABC with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe providing commentary.
Alabama has recently dominated this rivalry and won three of four meetings this year; Alabama ranks second in FBS total offense (415.7 yards per game) while their defense ranks 12th (allowing just 20.8 points per contest).
Georgia has been extremely impressive this season on their own. They currently rank fourth in FBS rushing with 220.3 yards per game and 28th for third-down conversion percentage (46.1%). Georgia’s defense has also been strong, holding opponents to just 124.3 rushing yards per game on average.
Georgia leads all-time SEC Championship Games 1-0 and looks to extend that record against Alabama. Kirby Smart and his Bulldogs faced Alabama on Sept 27 and defeated them comfortably; this will mark Kalen DeBoer’s inaugural SEC title game as Alabama head coach since taking over for Nick Saban in 2021.

The SEC Championship Game is always one of the most-anticipated matches of each year and broadcast live by ESPN. It can determine both teams’ College Football Playoff hopes – with the winner receiving SEC crown and earning first round bye into playoffs while its loser being left out of four team field.
Georgia found itself off to an impressive start this season, quickly reeling off seven consecutive wins including three against top-10 opponents before entering conference championship weekend as one of the favorites to capture their second straight SEC crown and third overall under head coach Kirby Smart. Georgia showed their dominance by shutting down Alabama and controlling tempo throughout their win in Atlanta.
First half was all Georgia as they raced out to a 14-0 lead over Alabama in just 30 minutes. Alabama failed to score even one point during that span and went 3-for-13 on third down without reaching red zone territory.
Time of possession played an even larger factor as Georgia held on for almost twice as much time than Alabama held the ball during play.
Alabama didn’t find its stride until late in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Gunner Stockton finally managed to find some open receivers and create some momentum, but it was too little too late – Georgia was ultimately victorious when their defense sacked Stockton in the end zone, giving Georgia a vital safety and victory.
Georgia won the SEC Championship and are now on track to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP). Alabama lost 42 consecutive games against their archrival, though.
Now the question becomes whether Alabama’s loss will affect their CFP chances and will meet again on Sunday for their fate to be decided.

Georgia and Alabama had been predicted to play close, but Georgia put on an unexpectedly dominant performance at Atlanta to defeat Alabama 28-7 and secure both the SEC championship and a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl game. With this victory, they officially clinched both titles with ease while improving their CFP prospects further.
The depth of Georgia’s offensive line quickly showed through when they were able to run the ball efficiently and hold Alabama to only three yards rushing.
Even without center Drew Bobo due to an injury, their offense remained efficient despite missing him on offense. On their initial drive of the second half, Gunner Stockton made a notable play when he faked out an opponent by rolling right and finding Roderick Robinson II for a 1-yard touchdown!
Georgia is currently averaging 190.4 rushing yards per game, placing 28th among FBS schools. Defensively, they rank 69th overall for total yardage allowed while also holding opponents to 33.3 percent third-down conversion percentage attempts. Georgia also excels in terms of turnover margin, forcing 11 turnovers this season while only committing 12.
Alabama’s defense has been one of their biggest strengths this season. They currently rank sixth in sacks and fifth in pass defense – holding opponents to 228 passing yards per game on average. On the other hand, Alabama’s running attack has been less consistent – ranking only 45th nationally for total rushing yards.
The winner of the SEC Championship should receive an automatic bid into the College Football Playoff, but there remain many unanswered questions before Tuesday.
A blowout win by Georgia could cement their top-four seed while Alabama may fall back into No. 10. Regardless, both teams will benefit from strong performances during this crucial matchup. Where To Watch Alabama Crimson Tide Football Vs Georgia Bulldogs Football.
