Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence had three touchdown throws and ran for another to help the Jaguars to an eighth consecutive win, increasing their AFC South lead to one game over Houston and keeping them within striking distance of being awarded first seed in the AFC.

Lawrence was sacked five times and hit 14 times, yet still managed to play through the pain to help secure victory for his team. Lawrence has been instrumental in their recent success and is making a compelling case as an NFL starter.

The Broncos managed just 81 rushing yards – their lowest total since Week 1. Additionally, they only achieved one first down. Additionally, they struggled in stopping Jaguars offensive rushing attempts, limiting them to an average three yards per carry and forcing all but one of their seven drives into punts.

Though their defense wasn’t as staunch as Denver’s, Jacksonville did manage a few key stops of their own. Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah recovered a third-quarter fumble while rookie B.J. Green II intercepted a pass during the fourth quarter for one more takeaway to add to their AFC-leading total of 28 takeaways.

After falling behind 17-17 early in the third quarter, the Jaguars scored 17 unanswered points to take an unassailable 31-20 lead with five minutes remaining in that quarter. Parker Washington scored on his 12 yard touchdown reception – his third of the game! – which gave them an edge.

Jacksonville was able to stop Denver’s rushing attack throughout the second half and prevent any chance of a comeback, continuing their strong performance throughout the season and into AFC playoffs.

The Jaguars offense got off to a slow start in the first quarter, but quickly picked up steam in the second quarter with four straight scores: first from RB Travis Etienne Jr a 1-yard TD run; next was 5-yard TD catch by WR Parker Washington; finally it was 3-yard pass to TE James Jones for another score; plus they managed one more score in fourth quarter with LB Devin Lloyd returning an interception 30 yards for another score!

Travis Etienne Jr.

Last week, Liam Coen led his Jaguars team to an emphatic win against Indianapolis Colts; this week they continued this momentum by dominating Denver Broncos. Travis Etienne and quarterback Trevor Lawrence each threw for touchdowns while their defense recorded two takeaways.

Will Lutz of the Denver Broncos missed an opening 44-yard field goal attempt, marking only one miss for both teams during the entire first quarter.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville drove 61 yards on their second possession before Parker Washington caught a 12-yard TD pass to take an early 7-0 lead with his 12-yard touchdown catch, followed by field goals by Lutz from 47 and 51 yards out that gave them a 14-0 advantage at quarter’s end.

After a 59-yard drive by the Broncos, running back RJ Harvey scored on a 1-yard run to tie the game at 14-14 with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter. Unfortunately for them, their next possession resulted in three and out for Denver while Lawrence connected with Etienne on an impressive 5-yard touchdown pass for an answer from Jacksonville.

Etienne had his third big rushing play (20+ yards) of the season to give the Jaguars a 21-14 advantage with 12:21 remaining in the second half. They later added another field goal – from 43 yards out – before halftime, giving them a 24-14 advantage with 10:01 remaining in the third quarter.

The Broncos began their next possession from their own 20-yard line. Running back Jamaal Charles ran right through the middle, breaking several tackles en route to scoring a 63-yard touchdown run that cut Jaguars’ lead down to 31-17 with 3:13 left in the third quarter.

On the next Broncos possession, offensive coordinator Bo Nix was intercepted by Jarrian Jones for another interception from the Jaguars – this time one that led directly to Etienne delivering a 6-yard touchdown run with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter and giving his team an advantage of 34-21.

Bo Nix

Bo Nix was initially ineffective for the Broncos at the beginning of this game but managed to find his groove after the first quarter. He completed a 27-yard pass to wide receiver Marvin Mims that gave them a 29-27 lead with just over two minutes left in the second quarter and later scored on Courtland Sutton for another 25-yard score with about three minutes remaining in halftime – both scoring on consecutive passes of his 22 throws for 291 yards with two scores on Sunday afternoon. He completed 18 of 22 passes for 291 yards with two touchdowns totalling 18 of 22 passes for 291 yards with two scores on this day of football action.

The Jaguars lacked any consistency on offense throughout the game, yet still managed to score 14 unanswered points after it was tied 17-17 with 13:01 remaining in the third quarter. RJ Harvey’s 38-yard run on their opening possession of the second half tied it at 10-7; Cam Little then kicked a 47-yard field goal on the next possession to give them a 17-10 halftime advantage.

Parker Washington reached 100 receiving yards for the first time this season when he caught Trevor Lawrence’s 10-yard pass for 63-yard catch, becoming only the second Jaguar this year to do so after Travis Etienne Jr’s 121 in their opener against Los Angeles Rams. It marked 13th place overall among NFL clubs.

The Jaguars did not register as many takeaways as the Broncos, but were more aggressive on defense. They notched one fumble recovery and an interception with defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah recovering one in the third quarter and Jarrian Jones intercepting a pass late in the game for a fourth-quarter interception.

They also added one red zone stop with rookie defensive end B.J. Green II chasing Broncos quarterback Bo Nix out of bounds in pursuit of setting up fourth down play against Nix in third-quarter red zone stop by rookie defensive end BJ Green II chasing out Bo Nix out of bounds on fourth-down play set up.

The Jaguars defense was excellent in their dominant victory against the reigning Super Bowl champions Denver Broncos, but its secondary was often exposed in coverage due to struggling to contain Denver receivers and cover them effectively. Still, this miscues were made up for with an exceptional fourth quarter performance by this unit.

Parker Washington

Parker Washington was one of the Jaguars’ standout receivers on Sunday, recording six receptions for 145 yards and one touchdown – including an outstanding 63-yard catch and run to set up Travis Etienne’s third quarter touchdown that gave them an advantage of 31-17. Since January 4, Washington has scored 12 touchdowns through both throwing and running play, making him one of the premier dual threat wide receivers in the league.

The Jaguars defense was not as formidable as that of Denver, but was more proactive and picked off two passes. Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah recovered a third-quarter fumble, while cornerback Jarrian Jones intercepted another pass during the fourth quarter – giving the Jaguars 28 takeaways entering this game, second most in the league.

The Broncos’ first drive ended without points and resulted in an unsuccessful field goal attempt, but their second proved much more fruitful. They drove all the way to Jacksonville’s 34-yard line where a touchdown would give them an early 14-point advantage; however, Denver needed one final 4th-and-2 play at goal line before finally having to settle for a field goal attempt from Denver’s defense.

On their next possession, Lawrence found Washington for a 23-yard gain, propelling them past 4,000 total yards for the season and marking Lawrence’s sixth time this year that he reached three passing touchdowns or more.

Finally, in the fourth quarter, Lawrence’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Etienne sealed their win and extended their streak of victories to six consecutive games – their longest streak yet this season.

Empower Field was electric during Saturday’s sold-out crowd at Empower Field. Fans’ raucous noise forced the Jaguars to employ silent counts at the line of scrimmage, while fans’ foot stomping left the press box reverberating from its loudness – creating the loudest road environment they had encountered this season.

Thursday will mark an opportunity to continue winning at home against Houston Texans and avoid season sweep by Super Bowl champions; and in particular defensive tackle Maason Smith returns after having missed most of this season due to foot injuries sustained earlier.
